Best team since 1980....?

I was reading some old questions about which team is the best... And I wanted to ask the question again, just for fun....

I choose since 1980 as I remember the teams since then... When answering this question I want you to only consider 1 season, so in terms of Brisbane in a row does not score extra point cos they won three we are talking one season... So.... My nominations are as follows...

1985 Essendon record of 19 and 3 and defeated the best team of the 80's twice in the finals and pumped them in the GF by 78points.

1988 Hawthorn 19-3 for the season and no one come close in the finals.

1995 Carlton, 20-2 60 points over Geelong in GF

2000 Essendon 21 and 1 record and no one come close in the finals.

2002 Brisbane 17 & 5 Record Won against Collingwood by a few in GF

2007 Geelong 18 and 4 won GF by 116...

Interesting when you write it down... I think Essendon of 2000 was the best team, they looked like no one could come close they were consistent and only lost 1 game... If you look as any Brisbane seasons they lost more then 5 games and as a whole did not look as good as Essendon, then look a Geelong 2007, they did not look as good as Essendon either, you can not count 2008 as they did not win the GF and in my opinion 2007 the Cats were not as good.

The Hawks of 1988 were great too and great players, but Essendon of 1985 wow they beat a team that everyone say could be the best of all time... Carlton of 95 they look as good as any of these teams, but I feel that Hawks of 88 were better even thought they lost 1 more game. So out of the nominations above my list is like this…

Essendon 2000

Hawks 1988

Essendon 1985

Carlton 1995

Geelong 2007

Brisbane 2002

What do you guys think?

Update:

I disagree with anyone who says Brisbane 2003 was the best team as they had a record of 14 1 7 and they lost a finals game to Collingwood... 8 losses in a season does not make a dominating season in my eyes....

As for Adelide in 97? Welll they had a record of 13 and 9 and only won against the dogs by 2 points sorry not chance there...

Roos 99 well they could be concidered with a 17 and 5 but many would say Essedon should have been in the GF had it not been for that upset win by Carlton so I rule that team out in my opinion..

Update 2:

Also re Brisbane winning 3 in a row that should not be concidered as then you can concider that the hawks made the 7 GF from 83 to 89 and then again in 91 winning 5 cups... and in my opinion Brisbane 4 year rain does not compear... But as I said I am saying best team in one season.

Geelong 07 - Looked totally unstoppable.

Essendon 2000 - Dangerous team, very consistant & talanted back then.

Hawks 1988 - Great players, alot of potential in their team & the most hardest and yet successful footy team that year.

Essendon 1985 - To thrash the best team of the 80s is outstanding.

Carlton 1995 - To only loose 2 matches, and then thump your grand final opponent by 60 points..simply amazing

Brisbane 2002 - Im putting this down the bottom (since you said it was only for one year) but if you counted the three following premeirships they would be higher. Had (currently still have) some great players, voss was instrumental in this premiership win & had been consistant all year. Couldnt have been a better coach than Leigh Matthews to hold up the cup.

It was really hard to order them, since each and every one of these teams (in those seasons) were outstanding in their own individual way which made them so memorable.

Essendon 2000 easily. What I have never understood is why they didn't keep going. I have never enjoyed watching a team so much and that one defeat by the doggies is still the best game I have ever watched.

How does North rate in the late 90's - not a fan but they were dominant and frustrated the hell out of me cos we just couldnt beat them.

I grew up loving the Hawks in the 80's - so many great players. As for Geelong, sorry but they are chokers so can't make it to "great".

    Definitely Essendon in 2000.

Another thought : Remember in 2006 how good the Crows were. ( up til Round 17 anyway, where they lost by 82 points). They were close to unstoppable, their percentage was in the 200s at one stage.

After many injuries and illnesses and a fallout in the finals, the Crows couldn't perform at the important end of the season. I'm sure the other Crows fans must remember 2006 though and the heartbreak of losing prelim final again.

I agree with Metal King, the Essendon team of 2000 was a devastating team. They dominated nearly every game by a mile and had teams constantly going backwards, I've never seen anyone do that in 30 years of watching aussie rules. The only game they lost was to the bulldogs, who flooded like never before. I actually had a $10 bet at the start of that season for the bombers to go undefeated at 300-1, just another reason to hate the bulldogs.

Essendon 2000,followed by Hawthorn 1989 and west coast eagles 1992. Carlton 1995 would be up there also. Most overrated was Geelong in 2007.

Essendon of 2000 were awesome!!! they blew every team away with an average of 50 points or more a game, Essendon only lost one game in 2000 by less then 11 points. No team has ever done this or come close.

Hell yea . that's what i replaced into thinking . there is not any participant in all NBA historic previous that won a championship all with the help of him self . and that i think of by no ability would be one . in certainty is even stupid to declare that a " participant won a championship" , the right thank you to declare this is that a team won a championship and the particular participant replaced into area of it . and of direction championships should not be used to evaluate 2 gamers . for my area in basic terms stats and guy or woman overall performance can say who's the appropriate .

The Brisbane Lions team that strung the three premierships together.

I bet we wont be seeing the likes of that again for quite some time.
