What is an appropriate Baptism gift for an acquaintance?
More info: It's for my step-cousin's baby ... Although she's a really nice lady, I've only met her twice and she's only been a part of my family for a few years (she lives on the other side of the country).
She's invited me, and I feel like I should attend, but I am not sure what to give as a gift.
Thanks!

i once gave a keepsake box where one could write simple messages for the child. this is actually a gift for the child, but a responsibility of the parents, at least until the child is old enough to read the messages. the child's parents can write simple notes, thoughts, and messages then put those in the keepsake box. they can do this for several years and when they feel it's a good time already, they can turn over this box, full of messages, to their child.

All good suggestions, and the gift sounds like a nice gesture. You should know though that Mormon baptisms aren't necessarily a gift-giving occasion. The child probably just turned eight, so they just got a bunch of birthday stuff. Just sayin', it's certainly appropriate for you to just show up if that's your preference. It's generally Sunday dress, which for Mormons is almost always dresses for ladies and dress pants with a white shirt and tie for guys. (But no one will care if you wear something different.)

Some baptismal gifts I received for my 2 babies were:
1) Baby bible (has stories for kids)
2) any religious themed book for kids
3) ceramic painted cross (small) with engraving on the back from my mom and sister
4) a check
5) a handmade blanket
Source(s): Most people do not give gifts like clothes or gift cards to clothing stores because that's not what a baptism is about. Its not about getting gifts, its a religious experience, hence religion-themed gifts are appropriate. - VictoriaLv 41 decade ago
All of the previous answers are good. But all of those gifts may have already been bought by people who know her well. I actually like to give gifts that the baby can use. Why not buy a cute little outfit that the baby can wear during the summer? Babies always need clothes.

a baby bible is nice, a savings bond, a small cross, a rosary they are all common gifts for a baptism personalizing the gifts are also nice. A small white frame personalized with the baby's name in gold or silver, you can do it yourself with rub on letters.
Good Luck
