  • Will I be lost if I completely skip Season 1 of "Stargate Atlantis" and just begin at Season 2?

As a huge fan of actor Jason Momoa (who plays Ronan Dex), I've been planning to watch "Stargate Atlantis" ... but then I read that he doesn't appear until Season 2.

Will I be totally lost if I skip the first season, or will everything kinda fall into place? I am no stranger to SiFi, but I am to anything in the Stargate universe.

Please respond only if you're familiar with this series. Thanks.

  • My dog refuses to go outside on his own. Any ideas?

My dog Rocket (a rescue mix, likely part Boarder) refuses to go outside without me or my husband going with him. We went through puppy class together, and beginner obedience, and he is very mindful. He will sit, stay, shake, high five and lie down and come when called with no problem and perfect attention -- EXCEPT for when it comes to going outside.

Even if I have a treat he just looks away.

We have a large fenced back yard and he loves to run around back there, but only if I go with him. In the mornings I know he has to "go" but he still refuses to go out on his own unless I "pretend" to be about to make him go out by reaching for his collar.

I know the reaching for his collar thing was a mistake, because it's like now he's waiting for it and won't go if I don't do it. It's just that some mornings I've been late for work and frustrated.

He just turned 1, so I know he can still learn -- but I need help!

I am starting him in Agility next week (he is a busy dog who loves to have stuff to do), and I want to make sure he fully minds me in a room full of other dogs. This not going out thing is bugging me.

I am only looking for tip and ideas from those who have experience training dogs.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Is the dog park "bad" for my dog?

My obedience class instructor told me that the dog park is "bad" for my dog.

A little background: Rocket is a rescue puppy, possibly a border collie mix, and he loves playing with other dogs. I usually take him to the dog park about 3 times week, even though we have a big backyard, to give him the opportunity to run and play with other dogs. In the future I'd like to get a second dog, but with 2 big cats, me, and my husband, already in our small house (with hope to have a baby or two soon) I need to put that off for a bit.

Anyway, the instructor told me the dog park teaches a dog bad habits, and that there he will learn to "listen to" other dogs, instead of listening to me. She basically said I should never take him there and it's bad for him and for our training.

Rocket is 7 months old and has a ton of energy. We play fetch and Frisbee and go for walks, but it's still not enough to tire him out sometimes. (I told the instructor that the dog park tires him out, and she said, "No it doesn't," which honestly cracked me up since, when he get home, he's always calm and is happy to rest or sleep. She's a bit of a jerk, but that's neither here nor there).

I plan to start him in agility class in the fall, and I know that will help with this energy -- but I want to give my dog a full life. If he enjoys the dog park -- greeting new people there (he's very friendly) and hanging out with other dogs, should I deprive him of this?

I am looking for the honest opinion of those who have experience with dog ownership, dog parks and/or training.

    Thanks in advance!

  • What are the best sandals for walking?

I love walking. And, this may sound weird, but I hate putting on socks and shoes to walk when it's hot out in the summer. Are there any sandals that are pretty good for walking? I just want something that will stay on my feet and not hurt for a 30-minute or hour-long walk. Thanks in advance for your ideas.

(Ps: Sorry this is posted in Running, but there is no Walking category)

  • How much, is TOO much to pay for a veil?

Budget aside, how much is just too much to pay for a wedding veil? Basically, how much would be just ridiculous? Just looking for opinions here.

    Thanks, in advance.

  • How much does it usually cost to get a chain shortened?

I bought a sterling silver chain (necklace) that I love, but it's a little longer than I'd like. Do you know how much jewelers usually charge to shorted a chain?

Of course, I am planning on calling around to find a good price, but I would like to know what a reasonable or typical price would be as a starting point.

    Thanks!

  • Guys only: Do you like receiving flowers?

Or, girls, would you send flowers to your man?

There is a debate going on on my friend's facebook today about this. His gf sent him a huge arrangement of flowers at work, and he's pumped about it. Other people are posting that it's weird and guys are saying they wouldn't like flowers.

I have personally never sent flowers to a guy, but I did give a guy a single rose once. He loved it.

    What do you think?

  • I REALLY want my bf to quit smoking. Should I keep on him about it or just let him quit when he's ready?

We've been together for a year and a few months. He does say he eventually wants to quit, and did attempt it once about a year ago. We are pretty serious -- he wants to move in together (I think I want to wait til we're engaged, tho), and I told him he has to quit before I would marry him or have children with him. Am I being too harsh and putting on too much pressure? I just love him and don't want him to die of lung cancer.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

  • My coworker keeps falling asleep at his desk. Should I keep waking him up or just let him snooze?

We are pretty decent "work friends." We go to lunch together often and have hung out outside the office in a group, etc.

  • My coworker keeps falling asleep at his desk. Should I keep waking him up or just let him snooze?

This has been going on off-and-on now for a couple of months. He falls asleep sitting up in his chair and starts snoring. My boss also told me he fell asleep once while doing an interview, and the client complained!

I have spoken to him about it. I suggested, in a friendly way (we're fairly close) that he has been doing it so much lately I think he may want to see a doctor to make sure he doesn't have some sort of disorder.

    But, the original question remains...

  • How many calories and grams of fat in a hummus and tabbouleh sandwich?

How many calories and grams of fat in a hummus and tabbouleh sandwich?

Ya know, just typical amounts of hummus and tabbouleh wrapped in a typical middle-eastern-style pita?

I've looked all through my Weight Watchers materials and all over the internet, and I can't find a good answer to this.

Just your best estimation would be great. Thanks in advance if you can help.

  • What is an appropriate Baptism gift for an acquaintance?

More info: It's for my step-cousin's baby ... Although she's a really nice lady, I've only met her twice and she's only been a part of my family for a few years (she lives on the other side of the country).

She's invited me, and I feel like I should attend, but I am not sure what to give as a gift.

    Thanks!

  • Did anyone you work with "call in gay" today?

Just wondering if most companies were okay with it, or if people were getting in trouble. I really think it's an interesting protest. Here's an article about it if you don't know what I'm talking about: http://www.philly.com/inquirer/magazine/20081202_D...
