Best food to put on a mousetrap?
I've heard that cheese, while the stereotypical choice, is rather useless at attracting mice to the trap.
So any one know any good tasty morsel's that'll attract a mouse?

Very carefully. I have been told to use peanut butter also. However 2 times now I have found the trap tripped and laying upside down and empty. It is frustrating and I feel that I am touching something nasty once a mouse has touched the trap. I have found a much better solution. Decon (other brands also available) bait. It is safe and has always worked. The product dehydrates the mouse (or rat) very rapidly. You will not end up with a dead rodent smelling in your walls because the creature becomes thirsty and will quick die close to a source of water. I usually will find it on the edge of my hot tub. I have been told that an old cool whip container filled with water in the general area of the bait will also work. If there is no source of water and the rodent does die behind the fridge, you won't have an odor. The bait dehydrate so quickly that there is not enough moisture to promote the growth of smelly stuff. If you have a concern about your car or dog eating the bait, you can rest easy. First and for most, cats and dogs don't like oats. Second, Rodents can eat up to their own body weight in foods at one sitting. This far exceeds the consumption abilities of house pets. Third, if you have a concern about it, the bait can be placed is places were a dog and cat could not possibly access,. Under the refrigerator, in a cabinet drawer, etc.

I have a secret bait for mouse traps. I use this in my garden sheds because cheese or peanut butter will go bad eventually if there are no takers.
Mice are always shredding paper and insulation for bedding in their nest. Put a piece of cotton ball on the trap. It won't go bad, and I have had great luck using it. And it's reusable.
Place the traps against the wall with the bait nearest the wall. Mice have poor eyesight and follow walls and pipes.

Peanut butter. And what's really good is that there's no way the mouse can drag the peanut butter away to eat it.
Good luck!

I worked in a country school with a mouse problem and I always baited my "trapline" with cheeze whiz. Worked very well!
