I need ideas for food for an office holiday party?

We are having a small gathering in my office on Friday. The theme is "These Are a Few of Our Favorite Things" and we are supposed to bring a dish that reminds us of our Christmas as a child. Well the things that remind me of Christmas are not appropriate for an office party, i.e. mashed potatoes, stuffing, turkey, ham, etc....

Can you please give me some ideas of travel friendly, yummy foods that I can bring to my office party? Preferably something Christmas-like. I am a great cook so that is not an issue. Thanks for your help.

Update:

Please, no desserts!

    Deviled Eggs

    6 eggs

    1/2 teaspoon paprika

    2 tablespoons mayonnaise

    1/2 teaspoon mustard powder

Place eggs in a pot of salted water. Bring the water to a boil, and let eggs cook in boiling water until they are hard boiled, approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Drain eggs, and let cool.

Cut eggs in half, lengthwise. Remove the egg yolks and mash them together in a small mixing bowl. Mix in the paprika, mayonnaise, and dry mustard. Spoon mixture into the egg shells, cool and serve.

    Ham Croquettes

    1 tablespoon butter

    1/2 cup onion, chopped

    3 medium green onions, chopped

    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1 (16 ounce) package sliced honey ham, finely chopped

1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

    3 cups dried breadcrumbs, divided

    salt and pepper to taste

    4 eggs

    2 cups oil for frying

    1/8 cup water

Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in onion, green onions, and garlic; cook until tender, about 10 minutes.

Transfer contents of skillet to a large bowl. Stir in ham, Cheddar cheese, and 1 1/2 cups of bread crumbs. Beat 3 eggs; stir into ham mixture. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Using your hands, make golf ball-size balls out of the ham mixture.

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Spread remaining bread crumbs onto a plate. In a large bowl, beat 1 egg; stir in water. Dip balls into egg mixture, and roll in bread crumbs. Place balls in hot oil being careful not to crowd. Fry until golden brown. Remove to paper towels to soak up grease

    Biscuits with Ham Butter

    1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

    2 teaspoons baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    3/4 cup sour cream

    1 egg, lightly beaten

1 cup cubed fully cooked ham

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened

In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. Combine sour cream and egg; mix well. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead gently 4 to 5 times. Roll to 1/2-in. thickness; cut with a 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter. Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 425 degrees F for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.

Meanwhile, in a blender or food processor, process ham until finely minced. Add butter and continue processing until well mixed. Spread over warm biscuits

That's a great party theme. It sounds like it's a homey, pot-luck style. I disagree that mashed potatoes and stuffing are inappropriate. If you have a slow cooker, you can use it to reheat and serve either. I'd go for the stuffing.

If you want to forget about authentic childhood associations, try making spinach balls. I'm a "gourmet" cook, but everyone loves this simple recipe. It's always a huge hit. I use good quality parmesan (reggiano).

You can find this recipe all over. This is similar to the one I use.

    Herbed spinach balls.

    20 ounces spinach, frozen chopped

    2 cups herb stuffing mix

3/4 cups parmesan, parmigiano-reggiano cheese, grated

    1 teaspoon garlic finely minced

1 each onion medium, finely chopped

    3 large eggs beaten

    1/4 pound butter melted

    Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Thaw spinach and remove excess liquid (squeeze it very well!). Add remaining ingredients (stuffing mix, parmesan cheese, garlic, onion, eggs and butter) and mix well. Form the mixture into small balls and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees F.

    Yield: Serves 12-20.

    NOTES:

    * These can be made up ahead of time and frozen. If frozen, increase cooking time by 10-15 minutes.

    * This recipe makes about 80 appetizer-size balls, or about 40 larger balls to use as a vegetable dish at a meal.

[My note - these are fine baked beforehand, then reheated when served]

Why CAN"T you bring a platter of sliced turkey and/or ham, with some homemade bread? .... How about a Spinach Dip (use the recipe on the side of the Knorr vegetable soup) and put it into a hollowed-out sourdough round; wrap in foil & refrigerate overnight. If you add some minced red bell pepper, it would be red & green then:) .... Or, put raw broccoli & cauliflower in a wreath shape (scatter some cherry tomatoes on top), with a festive dip in the center. You could even "tie a bow" on the wreath with strips of sun-roasted peppers

I think finger foods would be best. Bring a meat tray of turkey and ham lunch meat on toothpicks. You know a typical meat tray with cheese in the middle. Make minis, deviled eggs, small servings of sides mac and cheese in cupcake fillers.

Well you could do hash round casserole! My mom fixes it every Christmas and it is really good. Corn, sweet potato casserole, a big pot of home made Mac and Cheese, or deviled eggs. Just a few simple ideas hope they help.

A nice chicken or turkey home made pot pie. You wouldn't need any sides to go with it because the pie has so much in it.
