  • How do you deal with a vicious, lying boss?

I have worked in a hospital with volunteers for many years. Last September they hired our fifth director. At first everything was going well. Beginning in May, she started a smear campaign against my other coworkers and me. I was planning on going down a different career path after completing school but decided against it because I wanted to try and advance in my current job. Of course the only place I can move is up in this director's office. The volunteers we work with are completely supportive of this decision and want me in this position. I think my boss understands this and she knows no one likes her. I feel like she is trying ruin me so I won't be considered for her job when she leaves. I constantly hear her lying about me (my desk is close to her door) to the CEO of the hospital as well as some of the volunteers. She also has this new mysterious man spying on me, but supposedly my boss does not know him, he is just a new "volunteer". This man tells my boss everything I do or say, nothing bad of course. It is completely unnerving. We have had two confrontations where she actually lied about me TO MY FACE! I told her she was a liar but she refused to listen to me. I guess she believes this stuff she has concocted in her head!!!

I feel like I can go to the CEO and talk to him and try to set things straight that she has done. I have known him a long time. But how do I say I heard all these things without appearing like an eavesdropper? And I don't want to be like her and bash, but I would like to explain to him that so many people are unhappy with her performance. For instance she makes us adjust our time cards so she doesn't get into trouble for us working overtime. She also talks about her employees, each of us, to the others.

She is the absolute worst boss ever. Even the people she is supposed to be supporting can not stand her. Please help because I am going insane!

  • How do SSI benefits work for children still living at home?

My husband has a son who is almost 18. He is supposed to pay child support until June of next year. Apparently his ex-wife is trying to have his son apply for disability benefits because he has stomach aches, or perhaps a disease called porphyria. It's all ridiculous and we think another way for her to receive money for this child after he turns 18.

If he is still living at home, but is legally an adult, does my husband still have to pay for him? What about when he leaves his mother's home and goes off to college? We do not feel there is anything worng with him, however, his ex-wife will be very upset when the child support runs out. This is the last child out of 3 that he has to pay for and he is finished!

Not to sound so happy, but she does not allow the kiddos to even speak to their father. Now that they are adults, they won't do it out of loyalty to her. She has manipulated BIG TIME to the point that 2 out of 3 won't have a thing to do with him. So needless to say, we are looking forward to this financial burden being lifted.

  • Social Security Benefits?

My husband and I just found out that his son, who is 17, is receiving disability benefits and that his mother set him up for this. We know of no disabilities this child has with the exception of ADHD.

He will be 18 in December and graduating from high school next June. Our question is this. If he is still living at home and receiving these benefits, will my husband have to continue paying child support on him? Is this something he is required to pay for the rest of his life or while he is still just living at home? We were looking forward to not having this to pay when his son was old enough that we could stop. He has not seen his son in 10 years.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Running nose dried up after jogging, I am embarrassed!?

Tell me this is normal because I am mortified. This morning I ran a nice 10K event. It was awesome and I did great. The weather was freaking cold. My nose was running with me. I just kept sniffling while I was running. When the race ended, I was chatting with my friends that I don't know very well but they are cool people. One I knew from ages ago, the others I had just met the day before. They are master runners. So I get in my car and look in my rearview mirror and my sniffles were dried around my nostrils! I am 100% certain they saw and I am so embarrassed. No one said anything but I am still quite embarrassed. Please tell me I am not totally gross. I am so mortified.

  • Is there such a thing as a sexy sports bra?

I'd like to find a sports bra that doesn't flatten my boobs so much. Does anyone know of one that allows your boobs to look like boobs but still gives good support for running? I'd like to at least feel like I have boobs when I run!!!

  • My cat had ringworm and the vet said it was gone?

My mother gave me a cat that has been living on her back porch. This was November. I noticed a spot on her head and knew exaclty what it was. RINGWORM FREAKS ME OUT. So my mom took the cat back until the infection cleared. I did not want my other pets catching it...or me for that matter. Here it is three months later, she appears all better. We took her to the vet, she scanned her with the wood scanner in the dark and they gave her a clean bill of health. But the thought of her having it still freaks me out. She is going to live in my utility room until she gets used to us. Do you think if the vet said it was clear that it really is? I'm totally flipped about this!

  • How do you approach teenagers who never say thank you?

My husband's children (21 girl, 20 boy, 17 boy) live in another state. We send them gifts and money for various occasions and only hear from his daughter, not his two sons. She usually sends a quick myspace message telling us thank you and how much she loves the gifts. But the boys never respond. I can assure you they accept and use the gifts.

It irks the crap out of both of us, and my mother in law, who gets the same icy feeling from the boys. They are way too old to be so rude. My husband says he doesn't want to send anymore presents to them. Is there a way I can approach the subject and ask them to respond graciously when they receive a gift?

  • Will this make my running routine easier?

I have been running for about 7 weeks now. I have about 30 pounds left to lose. I have lost over 50 since July. I love running but find it to be rather laborous when I get to the second mile. If I can lose these last 30 pounds in about two - three months, will running become easier? I think the extra 30 is making me tired faster.

  • How would you deal with an ex who told your child he would put a bullet in you?

My son (12) came home from his dad's house and told me that his father said "Your mother isn't going to put me in jail for not paying child support, if I go to jail it will be because of a bullet". Then he formed his fingers into a gun and made a firing sound with his mouth. My son is tripping a bit and I don't know what course of action to take. This is really scary. What recourse do I have?

  • What is the best way to ease into a running program?

I have been trying to jog and build speed. I am up to a half mile or so. I would like to know when to stop and rest...like when I start to get tired or kewep pushing on. If I feel winded or my legs heavy, I stop to walk. Is this allright or do I keep going no matter what? Also give advice on proper breathing techniques. Is it better to run on sidewalks in my neighborhood or a track? And how long until I should expect real results for a 10K?

    Thanks.

  • How can I find a person if I do not know their name?

I was told this weekend by an uncle that I have a sibling. I am 33 and they would be about 29 or 30. My bio dad is a jerk, left me and obviously left these people a few years later. He will not fess up that it is true. However my uncle can not remember the name of the child's mother or the child.

Is there any way to find out who they are? I know they were likely born in California since that is where the mom lived when she got pregnant. He bailed out of Cali when he found out he was going to be a dad for the second time. I do not know the mother or child's name. I promise you that my biodad would not even hear me if i asked him. That is not a viable request.

Please help. I would love to find this person. I have always been an only child. Thanks.

  • I need ideas for food for an office holiday party?

We are having a small gathering in my office on Friday. The theme is "These Are a Few of Our Favorite Things" and we are supposed to bring a dish that reminds us of our Christmas as a child. Well the things that remind me of Christmas are not appropriate for an office party, i.e. mashed potatoes, stuffing, turkey, ham, etc....

Can you please give me some ideas of travel friendly, yummy foods that I can bring to my office party? Preferably something Christmas-like. I am a great cook so that is not an issue. Thanks for your help.
