My cat had ringworm and the vet said it was gone?

My mother gave me a cat that has been living on her back porch. This was November. I noticed a spot on her head and knew exaclty what it was. RINGWORM FREAKS ME OUT. So my mom took the cat back until the infection cleared. I did not want my other pets catching it...or me for that matter. Here it is three months later, she appears all better. We took her to the vet, she scanned her with the wood scanner in the dark and they gave her a clean bill of health. But the thought of her having it still freaks me out. She is going to live in my utility room until she gets used to us. Do you think if the vet said it was clear that it really is? I'm totally flipped about this!

Ringworm is a fungus. It is a very common fungus that most people and animals get exposed to all the time. For most of us our immune systems fight it off before it gets too bad. If your vet says that the cat is clear then she probably is. I wouldn't worry about it.

A couple of things: First, There's really no reason to freak out over ringworm. There's a VERY LOW chance you can catch it from the cat.

Secondly, a Woods Lamp examination is not a definitive diagnosis or ruleout for ringworm. If you want something more definite, have them do a DTM culture on the area. What they'll have to do is pluck some hairs and skin flakes from the suspected ringworm area, then place it in a jar with a gel indicator, and wait for a few days. If the gel turns red, it's positive for fungus. If not, your new kitty is likely in the clear.

Ringworm clears up in about a week or so with treatment. It's very basic and easy to determine if it's still there. If your vet said she's clean, then she's clean. Take her out of the utility room and let her get used to the house and your other pets. She's been with you three months and is more than ready to join the entire household. Keeping her locked away for this long is bad for her.

im pretty sure the vet knows what he/she is doin so i dont think you hav to worry about anything(and you can't get ringworms from cats)
