Has anyone ever brought packaging back to a store?
I do like this idea , especially the rigid plastic clamshells that you get salad greens in--it pisses me off that they are not recyclable, but I haven't the nerve to do it! I'm thinking of starting a collection of them and bringing them all at once but wouldn't that be totally obnoxious? Would it achieve anything besides making people cringe when I come to the store?
It's true you can avoid some packaging but raspberries for example, or how about those party trays or if you buy a barbecued chicken...I guess, don't buy those things?

On the surface...it sounds like a grand idea. However...the burden on the store concerning the extra cost to process all that trash would be passed on to the consumer, AKA you. Dirty Rotten Walmart.
Besides...if your local government has a recycling program, then you are already paying to have these items recycled. Got it? In the form of a taxes and or taxes.
It'd be like committing a self-imposed double jeopardy. Taxes, and or taxes, and higher prices for the goods you buy.

I would love to do this!!! However, I don't purchase things in pkgs that can't be recycled. Have you expressed your displeasure to the management/owner of the market? The clerks can't do anything about it, but if you get a little petition going and present it, even with 25-30 signatures, they may pay attention and do something. Unless it's some giant like Safeway. I buy salad greens in a store that uses those little plastic produce bags which can be rinsed and brought back with me to reuse.
If you drop the plastic clamshells off at the store, the clerk will just think you're nuts and toss 'em in the trash.
But get this, our local market and an organic market just admitted they have no one to collect those plastic bags we so faithfully stuff in their recycle bin!!! They have been trashing them!!!
Good Luck.

I've brought paper bags back to reuse, tend to stay away from packaged veggies = not fresh.
As with plastic bags the groceries go in, I reuse them in the car/van/truck as trash bags, handles hang on the arm rests make a perfect place to stow the kleenex, soda bottles, etc while on a trip.
Brown paper pags get reused at our house as well. The are folded over the top edge twice to make it rigid and they go between sofa's, beds, under computer desks, etc... Also, cats love paper bags, they are loud and comfy at the same time, good for play and sleep.
Back to your rigid plastic trays - use them to hold paint while doing trim touch ups, use them as dividers in drawers, etc. all sorts of uses.
In closing, none of my suggestions have anything to do with going green, I don't believe in it or global warming. I do it because it just makes sence to reuse them - it saves me money!
