Dark Matter, Dark Energy, an ever expanding universe, does anyone have info in this?

I was watching the show "The Universe" And they stated that the world will not be destroyer by "Global Warming" but by global freezing as the universe is constantly expanding and getting further away from the sun.

Update:

I would like to thank you all for responding. I also posted this on Physics and was insulted for the effort by one of the two answers so far who said that I must have misunderstood what the program had said. Thanks for being kind and helpful folks. Peace&Love be with you...~M~

Yeah, I watched that last night. We'll probably kill ourselves before that happens. and its expanding as a galaxy as a whole, not individual bodies. Although our galaxy is constantly moving away from the center of the universe, our sun, Sol, keeps the planets in our solar system in check. But if the show said otherwise i don't know, i only caught about the last 20 minutes of the show.

Source(s): Also! You may have misunderstood. Global warming will cause an ice age (oxymoronic right?) should it happen.

most of the stuff you hear about it because of fanatasists who are making money off of what you are afraid of. in the hippie world, guys like al gore are heros. in the political world, he's toxic and no one wants him. there are no problems that won't be solved. i'm a physics student. the media went nuts over 911 but ran out on that, so they went to global warming. it's all just scare tactics by them to get you watching tv.

the unverse does not expand. it consists of all matter that exists already. in all physical existuants there is a balance of energy and stability. sure, the earth may change a little over the next billion years. we have proof that creatures existed billions of years ago on earth. it was habitable then, it will be in the future. you have nothing to worry about. and nothing you can control. just live a happy life and enjoy your family.

yes the universe is expanding but it will take a very long time for the earth to get far enough out too freeze im sure humanity will have invented some thing by then 1000 years or more

If you look around at the details of the Universe, the planets, the stars,..the miracle of logic and the human mind and body, the extremely complicated intricate details of [for example] the human eye, the brain, our functioning body systems, our conscience and emotions, our inner desire to be loved and to believe in something beyond us..one simply has to come to the conclusion that there is a Creator..To believe that nothing became something, blew up and became everything is intellectually and rationally wanting..As time progresses, more and more evidence builds to point to clear and coherent evidence that there must have been a form of Intelligent Design behind it all, a Creator of the Universe.

When you realize this, the message of God, and how deeply involved in our lives He is, life in itself takes on a new meaning. When you come to the issue of global warming, let's review this crucial concept..

A quick look at Jeremiah 9:21-24 gives the answer to this intellectual dilemma. How could God be loving and make this beautiful and marvelous Creation to then allow us to all freeze over? The Bible tells us that He is in control, and that He does send judgments to this earth. God is love, but He's also just and holy and if He gave us what we deserve, the global death march of His holiness would sweep us all into Hell.

Imagine you have knowledge that a bridge has been washed out by a terrible storm, on a dark and moonless night. You stop all approaching cars and say, "The bridge that spans a thousand-foot chasm has been washed away! Please turn your vehicle around." The violence of the storm itself is enough to convince any thinking driver that you are speaking the truth, and those who have the sense to believe you do turn around.

Tsunamis, terrible diseases, the state of our earth, agonizing cancers, massive killer hurricanes, awful suffering, and death itself are very real and that should be enough to convince any thinking person that our warning is true.

The message of Christianity isn't one of God wanting to better this life for humanity. It is one of warning of a terrible fate in store for those who continue on the road of sin. We are told by God's Word that there are two deaths on the highway to Hell. The first death is when we leave the storms of this life and pass into timeless eternity. The second death is the chasm of eternal damnation. It is the terrifying justice of a holy God.

While God is not going to let anything happen to this earth that is not a part of this plan, you must realize that global warming is not the scary issue..The scary issue is death. We all are going to die eventually anyway. So the question you must ask yourself is not "Is the world going to freeze over?" but "Am I prepared to meet my Creator?" The Bible says that "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." Matt. 24:35. There is going to be an end to the world, and He is coming back, but, for the sake of your soul, don't stress over the issues of our fading earth, but rather of your eternal soul. Trust in the Lord, and you will be saved.

Remember, we all have sinned, and broken God's law (the ten commandments) This is the reason we all need a Savior. He promises to forgive our sins and save us from everlasting punishment. Don't worry about the state of the earth, but rather the state of your soul..It's too important to just push to the back of your mind. This world will pass away..but YOU won't.. Remember, He loves you and died for you to take the punishment for your sin so that you would be saved from this horrible fate. Christ is the only hope for humanity.

I read that dark matter keeps the universe and galaxies from constantly expanding.

In astronomy and cosmology, dark matter is hypothetical matter that does not interact with the electromagnetic force, but whose presence can be inferred from gravitational effects on visible matter. According to present observations of structures larger than galaxies, as well as Big Bang cosmology, dark matter and dark energy account for the vast majority of the mass in the observable universe. The observed phenomena which imply the presence of dark matter include the rotational speeds of galaxies, orbital velocities of galaxies in clusters, gravitational lensing of background objects by galaxy clusters such as the Bullet cluster, and the temperature distribution of hot gas in galaxies and clusters of galaxies. Dark matter also plays a central role in structure formation and galaxy evolution, and has measurable effects on the anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background. All these lines of evidence suggest that galaxies, clusters of galaxies, and the universe as a whole contain far more matter than that which interacts with electromagnetic radiation: the remainder is called the "dark matter component."

The dark matter component has much more mass than the "visible" component of the universe.[1] At present, the density of ordinary baryons and radiation in the universe is estimated to be equivalent to about one hydrogen atom per cubic meter of space. Only about 4% of the total energy density in the universe (as inferred from gravitational effects) can be seen directly. About 22% is thought to be composed of dark matter. The remaining 74% is thought to consist of dark energy, an even stranger component, distributed diffusely in space.[2] Some hard-to-detect baryonic matter is believed to make a contribution to dark matter but would constitute only a small portion.[3][4] Determining the nature of this missing mass is one of the most important problems in modern cosmology and particle physics. It has been noted that the names "dark matter" and "dark energy" serve mainly as expressions of human ignorance, much like the marking of early maps with "terra incognita."[2]

People need to stop using the words global warming & use climate change cause that is more correct. Sorry, I don't have info. on this but will give you a star so more people will see your question.

If you paid attention to the show, you would have heard them say "our planet is not expanding, our solar system is not expanding but it is the galaxies that are expanding..." There is simply more and more space in between them. The theory is that our galaxies will be so far apart from one another we will not be sharing light/heat from external sources.

To counter this argument I would refer the readers to look up something called Abell 3627.

If you are suggesting a new fate for our planet, one that flies in the face of what we know now, then I suggest you should supply your contradiction to our 5 billion year guess.

    sorry, can't tell you.

Dark matter does not exist. Dark energy does. it is bendable. try.
