What to do about a suspended license?

I went to DMV and found out that I have a suspended license due to a traffic ticket I got several months ago. The ticket was for my side mirror being broken. I never got a warning or anything. DMV said to go to the police station in the area that I got the ticket.

I need to be prepared for when I go there. Please, can someone tell me what to expect? Will I lose my license? I've never had a traffic ticket before and my license was clean.

If you have a copy of the ticket you can go to the court specified on the citation. The clerk of the court should have the record and the fine associated with the citation. You can probably clear it up by paying a fine and having the DMV hold removed from your license. If not, the clerk should be able to tell you what you must do to clear the hold. Good luck.

It was probably only a fix-it ticket to begin with so if you do not have the mirror fixed by now, you should probably have it done. Go to the police department or issuing agency. See if you can just get the ticket signed off by an officer. But due to the fact that they suspended your license you are probably beyond that point. So be prepared to pay the original ticket + late penalties + any administrative fees + a fee to have your license reinstated. I would also recommend having someone drive you around and/or to the police station, otherwise you can be arrested for driving on a suspended license. That could result in your vehicle being towed and impounded which cost additional money.

Take enough cash to pay for the ticket and fines. You can call to find out how much they are. Then ask them what you need to do to get your license reinstated. You probably have to take the paid document along with other paperwork to the DMV.

You can expect to be arrested for not paying your ticket, so, take money with you to pay it.
