• "The role of the President is not to follow the path of the latest polls," he told voters. "Whether you agree with me or not, you know where I stand, what I believe and where I'm going to lead. You cannot say that about my opponent." By taking a hard line on divisive issues, he made character--not his record--the issue.
• "My presidency is one that has drawn some fire, whether it be at home or around the world. Unfortunately, if you're doing big things, most of the time you're never going to be around to see them [to fruition], whether it be cultural change or spreading democracy in parts of the world where people just don't believe it can happen. I understand that. I don't expect many short-term historians to write nice things about me."
• “Ronald Reagan did it by keeping things vague: It's Morning in America. Bill Clinton did it by keeping things small, running in peaceful times on school uniforms and V chips. Bush ran big and bold and specific all at the same time, rivaling Reagan in breadth of vision and Clinton in tactical ingenuity. He surpassed both men in winning bigger majorities in Congress and the statehouses. And he did it all while conducting an increasingly unpopular war, with an economy on tiptoes and a public conflicted about many issues but most of all about him.
• “Ordinary Presidents have made mistakes and then sought to redeem themselves by admitting them; when Bush was told by some fellow Republicans that his fate depended on confessing his errors, he blew them off.” And won re-election
Remember when Bush called the press conference but was really on his way to Iraq.

Well I don't think that he was the best this country has ever scene and there are other former presidents that screwd the pooch royally , of course we all know where this war in Iraq has left the US
List of Significant events while on other former presidents watch:
(D) Jimmy carter - July 3 1979 sent CIA , aid to afghan militia during the AFGHAN-SOVIET war
(D) Jimmy carter - Nov 4 1979 Iranian Hostage crisis 9 US Delta special forces casualties , 52 US hostages
(R) Ronald Reagan -Oct 23 1983 Beirut barracks Bombing , 241 American casualties by suicide bomber

Yes I liked him. I do not like how he left the country but also do not see it entirely as his fault. I like how he invaded Afghanistan as most everyone was assuming a huge war and look what happened? With very few troops we took over an entire country.
He was also very presidential after 9-11. He asked Americans not to harm our fellow Americans who happened to be Muslim just because of Muslim extremists ho attacked us. That alone earned my respect.
He was a statesman which is very different then a politician. A politician is like a huge tree that bends in the wind whichever way the wind blows, sort of like Clinton. A statesman stands firm and resists a blowing wind or the polls, just like Bush did.
My favorite quote from Bush:
The role of the President is not to follow the path of the latest polls," he told voters. "Whether you agree with me or not, you know where I stand, what I believe and where I'm going to lead. You cannot say that about my opponent." By taking a hard line on divisive issues, he made character--not his record--the issue.

He is still blowing it off.
Dec 15th, 2008 Bush claimed emphatically, “I never said the Taliban was eliminated.”
September 2002: “The Taliban’s ability to brutalize the Afghan people and to harbor and support terrorists has been virtually eliminated.”
September 2004: “And as a result of the United States military, Taliban no longer is in existence. And the people of Afghanistan are now free.”
December 2004: “In Afghanistan, America and our allies, with a historically small force and a brilliant strategy, defeated the Taliban in just a few short weeks.”
October 2005: “Over the years these extremists have used a litany of excuses for violence — the Israeli presence on the West Bank, or the U.S. military presence in Saudi Arabia, or the defeat of the Taliban, or the Crusades of a thousand years ago.”
