My Dad had a reeeeeally bad lazy eye, although the family wouldn't know unless we were really looking for it... anyway, he got a simple laser eye surgery done and it completely fixed it in one treatment.

As your Optometrist about it, I'm sure there are other options.

What do you mean by "lazy eye"?

If you mean an eye that doesn't see as well as the other (amblyopia), if the person needs glasses or contacts, they will be given a prescription. If the person is younger, they are often prescribed a patch to cover their better seeing eye and stimulate the poorer seeing eye.

If you mean misaligned eyes (strabismus ie an eye that turns in, drifts out, or drifts up), this can sometimes be helped with glasses or contacts if the person needs them. Sometimes no treatment is recommended if it is mild and asymptomatic. Prisms can be prescribed to help double vision in some cases. Strabismus surgery is also an option.

If you mean an eye that doesn't appear as open as the other (ie one eyelid is lower than the other (ptosis)) if it is subtle, sometimes no treatment is necessary. Oculoplastic surgery to change the position of the eyelid is also an option.

An ophthalmologist will be able to assess how well you use your eyes together, the vision in each eye, any need for glasses or contacts, alignment of the eyes, etc.

It depends a lot on you age and the degree of amblyopia (lazy eye). First you have to get the correct prescription (glasses or contacts) and then you have to exercise the bad eye that we do is cover you GOOD eye at least 6 hours a day. The results are really good if you're treated before age 9. It's very important to go on follow ups because when the patching therapy is done incorrectly you can make you good eye lazy, too!

Please don't believe in the Bates method and all that crap. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thecheckout/2006/...

Go to your ophthalmologist or optometrist to be assessed.

When I worked in the day care I had a child with Lazy eye. They would tape his one eye and make the other eye do all the work for about one week then switch off. That helped. When he got older they did lazer eye surgery. He is fine now. All grown up and handsome to boot.
