How come the San Francisco Giants don't want to signed any power hitters to improve their lineup?

I am big SF Giants fan, but is just dont get it why the team is not making any additions to their lineup for next season. They didnt make and offter to the the best two power hitters free agents in the market M. Ramirez and Teixeira, i just dont get it how they want to win with the same line up from last year and renteria in my opinion was not a big signing.

It should be clear to you by now that Giants management is not committed to fielding a winning team for their fans. They will do what they can to improve their team without spending money and as long as they function in this manner they will never have a winning team. High priced players, such as those you mention, will find their way to teams willing to spend some money to improve their situation, but unfortunately for Giants fans you won't be seeing any of these players coming your way.

In regards to those who say that Sabean "looks for bargains" please explain why he didnt re-sign Pedro Feliz [25 HR per year] at roughly 6 mil per year and one of the best 3rd basemen in the NL and instead signed Aaron Rowand [15 HR per year] for more than 10 mil per year when the team already had 6 outfielders on the books.

This is the same guy [Sabean] who signed Zito to a zinger of a contract when Zito was clearly on the downward slide of his career and who recently signed Renteria [??] for 10 mil a year when he is also clearly in the downward slide of his career. I understand that Renteria is only there to fill a hole while Burriss matures, but how much better is he gonna actually be??

The newest rumor is that Sabean is actively trying to sign Randy Johnson to a 1 year contract. It looks like his plan for 2008 isnt to try and score runs, just not give any up.

I dont get it. In a year where the NL West is going to be as weak as it'll ever be, the Giants are 1 power hitter away from a Division Title and Sabean is sitting on his thumbs....atleats get Dunn on a 2 year contract and pretend like you care about scoring some runs.

Are you trying to say Renteria is not a power hitter??? :)

Seriously, partly they are crippled by the ridiculous $126M contract they threw at Zito. Also, many slugger don't want to come to SF because: 1) SF is not a contending team and 2) they'll be in a pitcher's park and their stats will get affected negatively. So the Giants would have to overpay for one.

And they guy who said Sabean is a moron... I AGREE!

Because the team is run by morons. Just when everyone was calling for Sabeans head, the front office signs him to a three year contract. It's completely baffling. They will never win as long as that guy is running the team.

They are young and are rebuilding. They don't want to spend money on a power hitter because they want to focus on pitching. They were in the Sabathia pool for a minute their. They might get a power hitter, but not Manny or Tex.

Sabean has been a guy for years who looks for discounts with aging players that may have one or two good years left in them, like Santiago and Grissom when they were there. He will look later in free agency for the discount guys that are left. It may not be flashy but he seems to think it will work.

My friend in these tough economic times your team cannot compete with the power brokers ie Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, etc. But have no fear. If they build a great farm system and compliment Tim Lincecum, they'll be fine. It take's time, but can be accomplished. See the Ray's.
