SFECU: What is the difference between Evangelicals and Catholics?
I 'm confused: I thought they were two different things, yet I see some Catholics calling themselves Evangelical?
Please straighten me out on this.
Thank you.
Minister and Solem, LOL, you get my point exactly!

I agree with CJ, Elder Greg and Minister. Before 1960's you never heard a catholic call themselves "saved" or "charismatic". The catholic charismatic movement began in 1967. So it comes as no surprise that now they will begin to call themselves "evangelical", too.

Being “evangelical” is something that all Christians are called to do, regardless of our denominational preference. Evangelize simply means “to spread the message of Christ”. The great commission is given to all Christians to “spread the Gospel to all nations”. Many take this to mean overseas mission, yet Luke 24:47 sheds a different light on the Great Commission. It gives a starting point, “beginning in Jerusalem”. Wherever you are at is your Jerusalem. Begin in your hometown and then spread out. Thus, an Evangelical Catholic is someone who is taking the message of Christ outside of the walls of the church. Just like an Evangelical Methodist, Evangelical Baptist, Evangelical Wesleyan, etc.
Now the media has distorted the true meaning of “evangelical” to mean “right wing fundamental judgmental hell condemning Christian,” which is the wrong meaning of “Evangelical Christian.”
I consider myself and “Fundamental Evangelical Christian.” Because, Fundamentally, I Evangelize the Gospel. My fundamental purpose is to evangelize the Gospel to the lost. Especially to those who unaware they are lost.
Evangelical Catholics, just like all other Evangelical people are just taking the message of Christ to a lost and dying world.

The problem with answering this is an Evangelical church can be 90% different in doctrine as another with the same name.
I was raised a Catholic but we were very Orthodox so I can't even begin to understand what an Evangelical Catholic would look like. I would just call them a confused God believer.

Why don't you speak to one of the Spirit filled Eucharist Catholic United copy cats & find out why they have to copy you when you were Spirit Filled Christians United & then again when you changed to Spirit Filled Evangelical Christians United... Whew... why do they keep feeling the need to copy your identity? Or you could put "NonCath" in your name... see if they copy that!

I'm getting to see that the name game is getting out of hand here at R&S again. Only this time everyone has something attached to make them feel important.
Thank GOD all i need to see jesus is faith that he is my savior and my belief in him is my salvation. That his living word of the bible is the instructions i need to live by to see my Glory in Heaven.
Anyways sorry, I wasn't criticizing any-ones tags but it seems life is all about labels and i tend to avoid them as it brings bigoted reactions from people.
Merry Christmas and have a wondrous New year and may GOD BLess your family and keep you safe always my friend.
Cheers, huggs, hopes and Prayers.

Evangelicalism is a Protestant Christian movement which began in Great Britain in the 1730s. Most adherents consider its key characteristics to be: a belief in the need for personal conversion (or being "born again"); some expression of the gospel in effort; a high regard for Biblical authority; and an emphasis on the death and resurrection of Jesus.
A Christian is a person who adheres to Christianity, a monotheistic religion centered on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.
The Catholic Church defines its mission as spreading the message of Jesus Christ, administering the sacraments and exercising charity.
However, Catholicism is a broad term that refers to the body of the Catholic faith, its theologies and doctrines, its liturgical, ethical, spiritual, and behavioral characteristics, as well as a religious people as a whole. In one sense, it refers to the Roman Catholic Church and the Christians living in communion with the Church of Rome. In a broader sense, Catholicism is associated with any church, including Anglicanism, that claims continuity with the Catholic Church before separation into Greek or Eastern and Latin or Western. Churches that make this claim of continuity include not only those of the Anglican Communion, but, among others, the Roman Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodoxy, and the Assyrian Church of the East. The claim of continuity may be based on Apostolic Succession, especially in conjunction with adherence to the Nicene Creed. Some interpret Catholicism as adherence to the traditional beliefs that Protestant Reformers were denied, as with the Oxford Movement.
Hope this helps shead some light on the confusing status of religions out there....

Catholics have many different orders. Some actually are evangelical.
Perhaps not Evangelical like your main stream bible thumping Evangelistic holly roller get in your face and eat my Jesus sandwich kind you usually encounter.

Listen real careful to their message. If it's not coming from the word of God,they are preaching a false gospel.
Most will never tell you God's one way to heaven as written is the scriptures.
