Is it a good idea to buy new american cars nowadays? If the automakers can't pay the loan what would happen? ?

I'm a Foundation Director and we were planning to buy 400 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Quad Cab 4x4, a large investment for us. But what would happen if Chrysler can't pay the loan in a few months and they decide to discontinue the production of our pick ups? We'll be loosing a lot of money in resale value. Is it a sound, intelligent and prudent idea to buy american vehicles now? We'll like to do it, in order to help the economy but what I would be explaining if I make such a risky investment and Chrysler go belly up?

Please do not worry about it. They will be doing everything they can to keep the car makers solvent. There are far too many jobs at stake here and the Democrats are not going to tick of the UAW.

Besides, if they had $700 Billion for 1,000,000 white collar jobs they can have less than 1/20th that amount for 3,000,000 blue collar jobs.

Besides the truck division of Chrysler is profitable and will continue operation no matter what. There is no reason for a profitable division to be shut down. However, expect to see some car lines be discontinued.

Remember that Chrysler has been through this before. When they got a government loan in 1981, I bought a new Chrysler product. They not only paid off the loan years early, the government made a profit. They will do it again.

Besides, GM and Chrysler would be OK if the finance people had not frozen the credit markets causing 40% of the car company sales to fall through. also note that even Toyota has lost money for 2008. They are getting by because the Japanese companies get huge interest free loans sponsored by their government every year.

All car companies sales are way down.

Chrysler has money in its investment holding company but they are not giving money into the auto division. I suspect even if they go under it will come back under bankruptcy very strong and indeed efficient. You probably would do good to buy a chrysler product. Buy American made mostly if you can will do more for the economy than to sit back and watch it burn. Buy America for our future
