What does my irregular heart beat and headaches mean PLEASE help?
Im going to try to give as much information as I can and not leave anything out because I am pretty worried. I'm 19 Early this summer I got really sick with strep throat and went to the emergency room for an irregular heart beat, it went from 98 to 151 in seconds. After a shot it stayed between 120-134. Nothing less sometimes a few beats more. They called it tachycardia and didnt look into it any further. Every since then at random times I have irregular heart beats, mostly when I am sick. For the last 3 days it has been constant! I cant sleep because I hear it pounding really hard in my chest and I can hear it in my head. My heart feels like it flutters, sometimes even feeling it pulls against the muscles in my stomach. The headaches are bad, they are at the very tip of my head (where a hat goes), not the side, not the front, not the back, a little on my neck from time to time though. It feels like I have been sitting upside down for hours it lessens and worsens. Mostly at night I break out in cold sweats. When I cough it hurts and outlines the pain worse on the tip of my head. I dont smoke, i dont do drugs, i dont drink, im not depressed/stressed, no high blood pressure, no diabetes, its not a sinus headache, and im pretty sure its not a migrane. This is different, my dad blows it off and says its your sinuses! your congested! and gives me a BC powder. (BC powder fixes everything with him) I do have mild asthma but it is not bad, ive never had an attack and it never bothers me unless i inhale steam or cig. smoke. I can breathe fine through my nose, I can not take a deep breath because it hurts, every so often I do cough up a little flem. If it makes a difference it only really hurts on my left side, like under my lungs, ribs, kindney area. Everyone thinks im just "sick" I believe its more. Any advice on what may cause headaches and irregular heart beat that hurts from time to time is appreciated. Sorry it was so long but I wanted to give enough detail.

One of the possible secondary complications of strep throat if not properly treated with antibiotics is Rheumatic heart disease. Given sucha limited history and no examination, I just wanted to throw that out there. Talk to your primary care physician ASAP! If he's one of the ones blowing you off, find another (better) doctor. Irregular heartbeats have many different causes and all need to be investigated. It sounds like atrial fibrillation to me, but all I have to go on is what you wrote. Do a websearch for more info as I could write a book here. I'm guessing that when you are sick you may be using cold medications. Many of these contain pseudoephedrine which will trigger A-fib in susceptible individuals. You need to have a 24 hour halter monitor which is monitors the electrical activity of your heart over a day's time to see what is happening. If it is A-fib than it is not a real big deal in the big scheme of things. You will need to be on blood thinners to prevent blood clots from forming in the heart (and then being sent through your circulatory system, but that's a pretty easy fix. Bill Walton the famous basketball player suffers from A-fib, so rest easy. But PLEASE get it checked. Go to someone that will give you the 24hour monitor, because A-fib is the most likely but also the least threatening problem. Other electrical issues in the heart are more worrisome. Headaches and pain may result from heart issues as the strength of the contraction of the heart may increase as your body attempts to correct the insufficient pumping of the blood. You may also have a cold at thee same time as pure coincidence. If I were you, I would go to the ER immediately. If you've had A-fib for 3 days, your chance of stroke is increasing and they need to chemically or electrically regulate your heartbeat. Get that taken care of then go to a good cardiologist and get the halter monitor.
