The answer is not genetics... It is stature!
Most female golfers are MUCH shorter than men and therefore with the same axis speeds will still generate less club head speed. Simple geometry. Women generally swing shorter clubs and have shorter arms. Therefore, assuming the same axis speed their club head will travel a shorter distance in the same period of time. So... the head speed will be lower. Lower head speed = shorter flight distances.
This is the exact reason why Michelle Wie expects that she will be able to compete with the men on an equal level. She is VERY tall for a female and generates very high club head speeds.
WRT the tees the women play. Depending on the course, the LPGA will set the tees as either the Whites (mens) and sometimes the Championship (one less than the PRO/PGA) tees. Give nearly any LPGA player and any male amateur, the LPGA player will out drive the amateur. These girls CAN play and play at an amazing skill level and distance.
As a final note, Annika Sorenstram played a three-tour event several years ago and out drove one of the male competitors. He had to wear a flowered skirt for the next hole. LOL

I highly doubt you're playing from the championship tees where you're at.
The tee's are designed so that everyone of all skill levels has the same length shot going into the green. Red doesn't mean ladies, it's for higher handicaps.
As an example: If your grandpa is playing the reds, you're playing the whites, and Boo Weekley is playing the Championship tees, theoretically you should all be hitting the same club for your second shot onto the green.
If you are playing with a girl who wants to play the reds, and you play a shot into the green with a 7- iron and she's hitting a PW, she needs to move back a set of tees.
Stina Steinberg from Golf Digest has a simple formula for which tee to play: take the distance you hit your 5 iron and multiply it by 36. The total you get is the yardage for the corresponding tee you should play. Someone wrote to her and he said it worked out for his golfing situation, so she tried it and liked it.
Besides, what's the worst that could happen... people start enjoying being on the course?

Considering that women dont play competitively with men, I dont think is much of a concession. Women cant hit it as far as men (in general.) Courses like to set up so that each player can have roughly the same type of approach shot as men. The only way to do this is to set up different tees for different playing abilities. And also, just because the tee markers are red, it dosnt designate them as a "womens" tee. The forward tees are also for high-handicappers, kids, and seniors. Most championship courses will have at least four sets of tees. Forward tees are also set up at different angles to make for easier approach shots to different parts of the green, to eliminate forced carries, or dramatic changes in elevation.

You have a good mix of answers for other posts, so I will try a funny one.
Long before ladies were allowed to play GOLF (Gents Only Ladies Forbidden), it was believed that women cannot play this game. So a bunch of liberation lassies went up in arms (or clubs) and got themeselves enrolled. When they came up to play their first round, the local club put them along with their pro. Like you are demanding, they wanted to tee from the tip and they did. In the process they found out that they could not drive as well as the pro. So they asked for an equalizer to offset their disadvantage. And this was borne the ladies tee.
Over the years, the ladies tee has come to stay.
btw, in the regular foursome that plays ahead of us every sunday, a mother and daughter play. The mother always tees off from the mens blue, while the daughter tees off from the tips. I wish I could drive half as good as they do.

I believe that the answer you are looking for is fairness.
Lets not look at Professional golfers, but instead the Amateur weekend golfer.
The Ladies tees(red) are set up ahead of the men's tees(white) to allow the women to hit their approach shot with a compareable club to the men.
This is a handicap setup by course designers for fairness, that's all.

Women are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to length on the golf course and therefore play from a set of tees that they can manage from. Some par 4 holes for men do appear as par 5's for ladies and it is not uncommon for courses to have ladies' par a couple of shots higher than their men counterparts. Men could take a lesson from all of this and play from a set of tees where they can manage to hit greens from instead of fooling themselves into believing they can handle it from the tips.

Genetics my friend. Would you expect a woman to throw a 95 mph fastball, or QB the Buffalo Bills? Just genetics, hence women, while part of the armed forces, are not on the front lines with M-16's.

Women are physically not mentally weaker than men. Therefore they cannot hit the ball as far, I guess you want women to play from the men's tees so you can actually beat them? If you want to make the game unfair and win, go ahead...

Women most of the time hit the ball shorter than men so to make it fair they push them up farther but ifu wanna go play from the mens good luck.
