Believing in something just because someone else says its true is problematic. When these beliefs become a part of government they can become tyrannical.

But I have become convinced that religion alone is not the greatest threat to humankind (not "man" kind BTW). The greatest threat is when government seeks to control other people and to punish them for "thought crimes." Those baseless rules stop human progress by censorship, control (both economic / social), and needless morality clauses.

Some of the worst places to live include North Korea (atheist) and Saudi Arabia (theocracy). Anything that opposes freedom is a threat; it does not need to have religious backing.

Though to be honest religion plays too much of a role in this form of tyranny. For instance Iran just shut down several human rights groups that helped others while promoting a tolerant form of Islam....very sad.

I think that religion is the second greatest threat to mankind...

and I believe that the absolute greatest threat to mankind is man himself...

You know, thats interesting. You would think that "religion" could protect you from evil. It seems to me that the Inquisition was like a total reversal where one could think that satan took over the church. Like the church became what it was fighting. It seems to me that the more you try to follow Jesus, the more satan and his minions are on your back! Sending his demons out into our world, challenging our faith, integrity, glorifying himself in his successes, and accusing us in our misery.

I'm sure satan is the greatest threat to mankind.

No. Humanity's tendency to think in terms of short term gain and the resulting trashing of the environment is probably our greatest threat.

You do your argument (such as it is) no favours by offering absurd propositions like this one.

If religion is a "threat to mankind," it is one we have lived with since mankind itself emerged.

No, mankind is. We are our greatest enemy. Who commits murder and corrupts justice, we do of course. We may not all do it, but the few who do ruin it for all.

all religions clame to be correct.

but only one can be so what do they do..... kill the compotition. what do you think hitler was trying to do... kill the jews... why....

beacuse people look to religion for an ansure

but whats the question? ill tell you,

    the question is "Why?"

    why are we hear?

know one knows and i dont think we are ment to know and looking for an ansure is eventualy going to kill us. We might find out we may never know

but do i think religion is our greates threat?

no, we are. we are all animals. when you take our language and technology we are animals. we kill

    and we kill eachother.

religion is the second biggest threat.

wars, starvation, illness, and for what.

    Religion.

Nothing will stop man from killing itself searching for the ansure.

and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

PSA 42:11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

poverty and ignorance are probably greater threats. funnily enough dogmatic religous belief is more often than not a symptom of those conditions
