Is David Lean an underrated director?

I would definitely put David Lean on the greatest directors list. The bulk of his work was when our greatest directors were kids, so when people talk Hollywood it usually is right now since they hardly ever look back. I don't think he is not considered an influential director by people in the industry, but in the public view he doesn't matter because all of that stuff is pushed away by what Britney and Paris are doing in the public bathroom. David Lean may be underrated by the media, but for true film buffs he isn't

I think he's overrated, I mean compared to Bresson, Ozu, Mizoguchi, Hou, De Sica, and a lot of others his films are kind of pop film. His epic films are pretty inaccurate also, if Lawrence was such a egoist why when he returned to England did he not accept interviews? His early films are some of the best British films ever made, but even among other British directors he's named more often, for example when is the last time you talked about Michael Powell's films, or Carol Reed's? Both directors made films that rival even the best of Lean, but they are rarely placed in the same category as him. I think he's a great director and is maybe the only director who could make films based on Dickens that are just as good as the novels, but also completely original and in Leans own style, but he is certainly not underrated.

My opinion Kubrick is extra desirable functional.. he's an extremely distinctive and proficient director for party a clockwork orange , dr.strangelove and the killing..
