try about 40% of my community. That does not include the working poor that have menial jobs just to keep a roof over their heads . What is not included also are the households that are dependent upon food stamps and the ones who have parked cars because a $300 repair is just unaffordable. Also, older children are taking care of younger siblings because both parents are working two jobs! Needless to say when parents are home, they are sleep & exhausted. So much for family values. There is also an increase in domestic violence as frustrations are running high but tolerance is running low. Some families are getting a decent meal for Christmas and just forget Santa Claus. Few have lights up this year as they can not afford increases in the light bill. The houses for rent or sell should be decorated instead, there are so many of them. The greater indicator would be a ratio of jobs to unemployed persons. Now that would be revealing!

If you continue using the pre-1993 methodology (Clinton Admin created "smoke & mirrors" statistics which seriously understate unemployment rates & inflation rates), the real unemployment rate is now over 16%. It is about the same or slightly higher than that of the same period after the 1929 Crash. So we are on track with historical figures of the Great Depression.

Maybe if we had continued using the prior methodology for calculating unemployment & inflation, we would have had a better idea of how big a problem we were creating with overspending and deficit spending by our federal, state & local governments.

I've lost track of how many people I know who have lost their jobs or their businesses are seriously impacted by this mess.

My sister's husband was laid off a few weeks ago, luckily they have enough $$ in the bank to cover the difference on the unemployment/his pay.

I am still working, I work in the auto industry and I am commission based (in service) and have been looking for awhile, there is nothing out there right now.

    Not good.

No, I won't be laid off because I am building my own business right from home. Our company is expected to double in the next 48 months. When the economy goes bad, we get busier. I can help you get started on my team.

Leave your info and I will personally set up an appointment with you. Feel free to pass it on to anyone you know who has been laid off or is unemployed. I love helping people build their businesses. Just because the economy is bad right now doesn't mean we all deserve to loose our jobs.

A friend of mine's fiance just got laid off... but other than that I don't really know a lot of factory or shop workers.

I work for a major movie studio as a part time security officer. It might as well be unemployment as I get work once or twice only a week...even less now that we're in holiday hiatus.

Yes, I know a few that have been laid off. it's really sad, but unfortunately it's going to get worse before it gets better.
