To be honest it would be very easy to blame those that hold the highest office in the United States. But that cannot be true. Every American should shoulder part of the blame. How many house did you buy and knew that they were not in your budget. How many cars did you buy knowing that some day the end of the tunnel would be seen?
We are all to blame for spending more than we could afford, charging our credit cards to the maximum, spending what we make next year. For generations to come our children and grandchildren will pay for the overspending that we did before them.
I am a CON for responsibly spending within the limits of what you make and not buying out of your budget. To blame Bush or Cheney for all the mistakes that people make is purely stupid!

Anyone that thinks one or two individuals are responsible for the economic meltdown we are in doesn't know much about how economics works.
I think they played a big part in when it happened. The war didn't do much for the economy here in the US. But they didn't do it alone.
That is the honest answer from a Bush/Cheney non-supporter. I never voted for the jokers, and I still am glad I never did.

Of course bush and cheney are responsible for failure to see the crisis coming even though they had lots and lots of data about it. They are also responsible for telling everyone that the "economy was fundamentally sound" and being a cheerleader for the stock market when they should have been telling the truth and getting support for earlier, more effective fixes. Finally, their underlying policies of stripping away rules and regulations for the financial services industry contributed greatly to the bubble that eventually burst.
And I've always been a democrat.

No the American people are responsible. This is what is leading us into a socialist form of government.

It isn't Bush's fault, he tried to keep it from happening but the democrats kept him from doing it, barney frank to be exact. And no I'm not conservative.

Of course they are. Just as they are responsible for the lack of life on Mars and every other problem in the universe. Get over yourself!

They are "responsible" for a lot worse crimes than the present state of the economy. The shredding of the U.S. Constitution for a start. It would not surprise me if both were arrested soon after leaving office -- for treason as a starter.
So, what is a "CON"?

They are not to blame for the economy. Presidents don't screw up the economy - they can't.
As for screwing up everything else...
