Question for Catholics - does Papal authority extend to non-Catholics?

As Catholics, we see obedience to the Pope as obedience to God because we believe that God has appointed the Popes to shepherd His people. Even Jesus said to obey the Pharisees becuase they held the chair of Moses.

Are non-Catholics required to obey the Pope since they do not believe that the Pope has been given authority from God?

    Non-Christians? No.

Non-Catholic Christians, even though they don't recognize papal authority, would be wise to consider his counsel. But strictly speaking, I don't believe anyone outside of communion with the Church is under his authority.

Naturally, our Protestant brothers and sisters will say no, but in actuality, they are being willfully disobedient (at least those who know better). God gave authority to the Pope over His Church. To obey the Pope is to obey God. So, yes, anyone who claims to be Christian is required to obey what God has ordained, which means recognizing and submitting to Papal authority.

    God bless.

From a Catholic's viewpoint, everyone ought to follow the teachings of our spiritual guide. However, from a non-Catholic's viewpoint, the Pope would not have authority because he does not hold a significant position in their lives.

No because we do not belong to the Catholic religion

We have pastor and ministers who lead us and who we willingly submit to.

    No ,

but if they realize that God is speaking His truth through the teachings and admonitions of the pope, then they would have to.

Some people will automatically disagree with the pope not beacuse of what is sai but because of who said it.

People who call themselves Catholic, on the other hand, have the obligation to obey the doctrinal and moral teachings of the Catholic Church since they,by their self-definition of being Catholics in full communion with the Church, accept the Papal authority in faitn and morals

    BrotherCJ,

with your "Romaphobic hysterics", do we need to cite examples of "unthinking antiCatholic paranoia"?

solid question, the final answer could be he's merely yet another uneducated fundaMENTAList who does not experience secure at night except he caresses his replica of Lorainne Boetteners' "Roman Catholicism". that's without a doubt unhappy and ironic that there must be plenty branch on matters that could desire to hold plenty solidarity. this could desire to be no suprise nevertheless. there are some years of strife between catholics and southern baptists, and there is no longer a answer which will make everyone satisfied. yet for now, i believe the respond could desire to commence with each and each team taking a trustworthy seem on the others' strengths, acknowledging them, and construction from there. holding in ideas that Christs' command for love which brings christian solidarity. in my view, I easily have problems with a number of issues baptists sell as christian doctrine, yet i appreciate them sufficient to look at what they have perfect, that's plenty whilst in comparison with some. we could desire to consistently consistently honor the reality first and finest, that's likened to a sword. So permit's pray for awareness first, then we could desire to work out how steel sharpens steel. i'm sorry yet...what precisely is prophet john babbling approximately? is there a "crack" church around?

Non-Catholics are not beholden to Papal Authority. They are not a part of the Catholic flock so they have not reason to fall under Papal Authority.

let me remind some of the protestants here of what the bible tells us in listening to what the shepards of Jesus's church have to say, the scriptures report, "He who hears YOU, hears ME, and he who rejects YOU, rejects ME"

He was referring to the shepards of the church, the teachers, the apostles. These words still hold true for today, they were not lost thru the centuries. Let's remember the "WHO" it is, we are rejecting in rejecting the leaders of the catholic church, the one true church.

No. The pope has no real authority. You Catholics give it to him. The protestants gave it up with Henry the VIII.
