NYC for New Years: What are some suggestions for a small group of 19,20,21 year olds from MA for this idea?

How should we go about getting there? Is the parking situation bad enough to just take a bus? Where should we stay? I have a friends in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Jersey City, contacted them all about including them so we have a place to stay, but they are all like f no, bad idea, so if we stay at a hotel, where is a good relatively cheap place to stay? Should we go down a day early? Or is this really bad enough of an idea to just punt on it?

    i agree

DO NOT do the times square new years!!!!!!

if you must visit new york go for christmas or just a vacation and have a little fun there's tons to do in the city but standing in the cold with tons of screaming adults is not on of those things.

maybe you could ask your brooklyn friends what they are doing on new years and do something similar. non of the times square nonsense.

o and i suggest staying with your friend in brooklyn or the bronx rather than jersey city.

It's really a BAD idea, IMHO. I would never go down there on New Year's myself but last year my sis in law came to visit from Calif and insisted we bring her to Times Square on New Year's. Ugh. We were there by 7:30pm and were corralled, like cattle, into roped-off sections on various side streets. We were not allowed NEAR Times sq or where you'd be able to see the ball come down. Worst of all, and I'm serious, there is NO PLACE in midtown Manhattan to go to the bathroom. Except Grand Central Station, maybe. But once you are in the corral, you are not allowed out of it! You can leave, but they won't let you back in. It's a degrading, aggravating mess. Stay home and watch it on TV.

Source(s): Times Square New Year's Eve 2007. Ugh.
