24 Hours is the most they can ASK you to work - your employer can not MAKE you work - they can say that your future employment status with them depends on your willingness to work 8, 10, 12, 16, etc hours "today" (or any day) - or they might even ask that you keep working until a job is complete (I have had a couple of 36-hour "days" in my working life), but usually a request like that is tied to public safety.

The only laws about the length of a work day concern minors, as far as I have ever heard or read.

unless you are in prison no one can make you work at all... simply tell them nope can't do that and leave...

as far as what is the longest work day they can require for you to keep your job.. dont' think there is such an animal.. never heard of it.. .. HOWEVER... if you are complaining about 12 a days.. that is normal for some jobs depending on the business... and texas is work at will so if you whine to much they can defiantly fire you...

personally i would talk to your boss about it and find out if that is the norm... if it is either adjust to it.. <living the high life on the OT> or find a new job....

Unless you are a transportation worker, where Federal law intervenes, there are no limits. Transportation workers such as truckers, pilots, train operators, etc. are covered by Federal duty day laws. State law may prescribe tighter duty-day limits but not looser ones.
