Is there any traditions when you should take your Christmas tree down, and what's the story behind it?

We take ours down on New Years day. We've done this for the past 10 years.

Whenever you like. Though I was told on December 27th that it didn't mean anything that my Christmas tree was still up, just that I am a little lazy.... Oh! Well obviously this guys family tradition must of been boxing day tree comes down. So really each to thier own. I think its logical when the new year has started we have done with the celebration of the completion of the last year and preparation for this year that we put the tree away as a way of renewal, like a signal that the bull is now out the gate as we charge into the new year. I know that was wordy but that's my thinking. New Years eve would be perfect time. So you start the New Year free of the Old Year. Which can be extremely cathartic.

January 6, the twelfth day of Christmas, is a traditional date to take down the Christmas tree.

I don't know of any actual traditions but most people keep their tree up until right after New Year's Day. My boyfriend's family put the tree up on his birthday (Dec 12th) and takes the tree down on his sister's birthday (some time in February). February is a little late for me so I usually take it down the first weekend after New Years.

A lot of people don't consider Christmas over until the 12th day of Christmas (Jan 6 - Epiphany) so they leave them until then.

Some people feel it is bad luck to take it down before New Years.

Some people just do it when they have time or when they are tired of it.

whenever you feel like it. Don't let other people say "what's wrong with you! you still have your Christmas tree up!" It doesn't matter it's only a decoration and plus you have to put it up next year so what does it matter?
