Attn: Appliance Specialists/Electricians?

In an electric stove (220 V), does one of the 110 lines feed the top burners while the other feeds the oven? I'm hooking up a power transfer switch for an electric generator but don't want to power the oven... just the burners.

A 220v stove uses both legs for each element including the oven. In other words, if you turn one burner on for the stove it requires 220 to heat up properly. The same goes to the oven elements. Unfortunately to do what you are wanting, it would be best to buy a small single burner that runs off of 110v. This way you would not be hooking up the stove at all and would have the portable burner to plug in when you are in need of using it with your generator. You can get them for about $10 where I live. Good luck...

Check the electric diagram, don't fool with electricity if you don't know how it is wired.
