I have a Stevens Model 59a, can I shoot a slug through this bolt action .410 shotgun?
I just don't want to damage the gun or myself. I was hoping to hear from someone who actually fires slugs through a 59a.

yes the factory accounts for all chokes the slug is same size and encased same as pellets in sleve thru barrel fair on small thin skinned game short range coyote small deer, small pigs most shoot hi so keep the shots close enough add a small red dot scope for a few dollars will help, not ideal gun but all you have this is how to improve it and what it can do,

Go 20 ga if possible. On a good weapon with a recoil pad it's not much more of a kick than a .410 as most .410's are light. My old .410 has almost the same amount of recoil as my 20 ga Remington Wingmaster. A .410 will definitely take down a deer, but so will a .22 caliber rim-fire solid point. Or a well-placed throwing knife for that matter. It's about bullet placement. And game laws. Might check that too.

Some say you can fire a slug through a full choke .410, but i have split a barrel by doing this. So I would only recommend shooting slugs through open, Improved or Modified

you can fire rifled slugs through any .410 in any choke, this is because the slugs are made of soft lead, so it can be fired through any choke that's made, but for the best accuracy though, I recommend that you should use a cylinder choke, not necessary though.

You should be able to just fine. It depends on the choke of the gun. If you have one with a full choke I would not shoot slugs.

Only if your barrel has an Improved Cylinder, or Open Choke.* Manufacturers recommend you only use Improved Cylinder Choke for Best Performance & Accuracy.*
