I'm a little confused about sheepskin?

So I thought that you shear the sheep to get the sheepskin.

But everyone is telling me you kill the sheep.

I tried researching it and as far as I could tell it was just shearing the sheep.

Any help out there?

I own sheep - they are like pets..

to get sheep SKIN - you have to kill and skin them..

to get WOOL you shear them - however the price of wool now a days is very low so some people dont bother.. unless they have very valuable wool breed sheep..

The wool is sheared off the sheep. It comes off in a huge wad, still held together by the fibers, but you can pull it all apart if you want.

The sheepskin is the actual skin the wool is attached to, they skin the sheep and tan the hide, with the wool still on it. So yes, they kill the sheep to get the skin.

The word for the wool sheared off is Fleece, that's different than skin.

  • When you shear a sheep you get only the wool in order to get sheepskin you must kill the sheep.

heres a link to how to make a sheepskin rug, it clearly states to must have the pelt from a dead sheep

If you are speaking of wool you shear it.

for sheep skin you must kill the sheep.
