What songs would you put on a Mix CD for my 13-year-old niece?
Songs NOT full of f-bombs, OVERLY sexual, or containing OBVIOUS drug references?
I want to make a mix CD (of rock songs) for my niece but I don't want to include anything with a parental advisory or released by Disney (I'm trying not to offend her parents OR my ears). Oh, and no preachy crappy Christian music (sorry if this offends anyone). THANKS!
Her mom mostly listens to Country and her dad Classic Rock.
Definitely DOES NOT have to be in one of the mentioned genres (that her parent's listen to). I'm trying to broaden her horizons a bit...
I'll leave the thumbs up or thumbs down to other people...

You could try Paramore.
They're great.
Or, along with that, put Chiodos.
I've never heard a song by either that included a curse, or is Christian, really.
Chiodos is a better bet if she likes harder (or softer) at the same time. They are hard in some songs, soft in some, soft in the beginning and gets harder, and their lyrics are really touching.
Paramore is more pop rock than anything besides what I normally listen to, but still amazing.
Avril Lavigne, Bullet for my Valentine, Norma Jean (screamo, but also a Christian band), In This Moment is really good, Haste the Day's "American Love" is amazing and has killer guitar riffs.

Kimya Dawson (she was on the Juno soundtrack)
Lily Allen
Lauren Hill
Imogen Heap
Lady Gaga
Robyn
Santogold
Duffy
KT Tunstall
Janet Jackson
Madonna (teach her some classics!)
Estelle

Paramore, Yellowcard, the Rocket Summer, and the Goo Goo Dolls.
Classic Rock:
The Beatles
Here are some more, but you should listen to these first, just in case some are too inappropriate. I don't think that they are, but I don't know if they are in your situation:
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Led Zeppelin
The Rolling Stones
Joni Mitchell
Jimi Hendrix
Blondie
The Pretenders

zombie - the cranberries
life on mars? - david bowie
bohemian rhapsody - queen
black dog - led zeppelin
black hole sun - soundgarden
