how do I get rid of avast (vista)?
Long story short, my buddy's comp went berserk. Blue screen of doom. Nothing I could do about it, so I went through recovery.
All's cool again, but the Avast app gave up. Program not working.
I tried to remove it in uninstall. Won't let me do it.
So I used Revo, got rid of some of the carp, but still could not remove the program in it's entirety.
Tried installing and unistalling again. Did not work.
Deleted all reg keys associated with avast. Nothing doing.
Still have the bleeping avast icon (with the red stop mark next to it) and the bleeping avast pop up telling us the program is bleeped.
Any ideas other than format?
TIA
Techie> Actually I'm pretty sure that's what happened. I tried updating over and over again. When trying to update Avast asks for a restart (not unlike the blue screen of doom). FFFFF
AlexD> I'll try your suggestion next time I get my hands on that infernal device. :) Thanks.
Cannot downgrade to XP, it's not my comp. Besides, formatting is less of a headache.
Having said that, holy frick. I've yet to meet a person who has not suffered the wrath of Vista.

May be your avast was interrupted in between, when it was trying to update. Try updating Avast.
