Alaska has an intricate network of both professional social workers and volunteers that help prevent child abuse - and act on it when discovered.

Unlike most states - Alaska has the funding to train all police, fire, ambulance, teachers and civic volunteers in recognition of child abuse. Alaska is one of the few state with mandatory reporting for these people.

How a call is treated depends on who it is from. If a couple is in the middle of a nasty divorce and one is simply snitching on the other to gain brownie points with the judge - don't expect Child Services to show up any time soon. However, if a trained observer - police, trooper, fireman, ambulance person, teacher, etc etc makes a report you can expect action within the hour.

    Hope this helps.
