Safe plant for betta tank?

What kind of plant is it that you can put in with a beta? I would like to get a nice glass vase for my betta, and I think its neat when people have a live plant in the tank. Whats the type of plant that survives in the water and the fish can feed off of?

Bettas won't really "feed" off plants. Some people say that they'll feed off of the roots, which is entirely false. They may pick at the roots, but they will not eat them.

Bettas should also not be in vases. They are labrynth fish and unlike other fish, prefer to take oxygen from above the water, not from the water. Because a vase is tall, it may stress it out. More surface area is better for this fish.

Ideally, bettas should have 2.5+ gallon tank that is heated.

They will need to be fed fish food (pellets/flakes) at least every other day.

The bettas you see in vases generally don't survive as long or are just put in there for the picture before being taken out.

In any other case, "lucky bamboos" are often put in fish tanks. I actually have a couple. They're gorgeous to look. With any plant you put with your betta, I recommend a live, aquatic plant. You could try elodeas as well. Live plants are better as they're not as hard as plastics and won't shred the bettas fins. =]

There is a special um-..product that you can buy called "betta bulbs". It is three bulbs of three different aquatic plants that help specifically bettas thrive. I would still reccomend feeding it freeze-dried blood worms or fish flakes until you see it eating the plant though, because I am not sure if they will eat it. Bettas are picky. I actually keep my betta in a classic glass gold fish bowl. I put a semi-aquatic plant in as a center-piece, and even though it is still green after 3 months, there are also no bite marks either.

I have a betta, I put a water lilly in with him. You can also use bamboo plants. The only issue is you have to give the plant sunlight. With that being obvious, the sunlight can cause algae to grow faster in your fishes bowl. I buy my betta spring water from the store. I use a gallon a week. I have had him for over two years now, which is really good for a betta.

Good luck with with the new fish! Please do not torture him/her by putting other Betta's or mirrors by their bowl. Some people find enjoyment out of making them flair up. Personally, I think its rude.

This is the same sick betta trend going on. I should inform you as soon as possible that this is wrong. The plants people put in their betta tank are for hiding places, rather than food. Bettas are naturally carnivores, they feed on insect larvae, not vegetation. Any live true aquarium plant can live with bettas, for beauty and hiding places, not as food.

It's safe but if your betta is really hyper he might tear his fins on it. It's happened to a couple of mine. Silk plants work much better.

DO SOME REASEARCH THEIR CARNIVORES. FEED THEM PELLETS. and bloodworms but feed the blood worms only 2 times a week.

    =)
