Do you redeem air miles for miles or for kilometers ?

Everywhere in Canada we have air MILES when distances are measured in kilometres. Anyone know why?

    Air miles are international-- since airlines fly between countries, a single system had to be chosen. The first programs came out of US companies (I believe Canada may still have been on the English mile back then), and the system has never ben changed. [Just multiply by .62!]
