Can I get off and later reboard flight at transit stop?

I have a flight from NYC to LHR vis MUC on LH. My return the following week is from LHR to NYC via FRA on LH. Can I get off in MUC without using the MUC-LHR leg? Then can I get back on in FRA for the flight back to NYC without using the LHR-FRA portion? I am not checking luggage. I am traveling light with just carry-on. Is there a penalty? Will failure to fly all legs void the return flight?

if you really want to do that, you have to check with the airport counter staff at NYC. They might not allow you to do so or they might charge you a penalty(please check the rules for the ticket that you bought) and reissue you a ticket.

Anyways, if you eventually did exit at MUC without any ticket reissurance, you should keep the rest of the unused portion away for refund and buy a new ticket back from FRA. You must check with them to see if there is a refund value. There might not have any.

Tickets cannot be used out of sequence. Even if somehow you successfully did, there will be no refund value for the unused portion.

Actually if you are quite sure that you are no longer travelling to LHR, why not refund the whole ticket and issue a new set for NYC-MUC//FRA-NYC? Overall (after getting back the refund 2mths later) would be cheaper.

On Airlines in the US this was not allowed. Don't know if the Foreign Flags have the same restrictions. Call LH and ask a hypothetical.
