My neighbor's dog never stops barking. What should I do?

I work evenings so I sleep during the day, and I have young children who nap during the day. This stupid dog never shuts up. What can I do? The neighbors just moved in a few weeks ago and they are never home when I go over to talk to them about it.

Update:

Oh, and I called animal control a couple weeks ago when the dog was left outside in the freezing rain, 30 degree temps all day. Apparently that didn't learn them anything.

Keep calling. If they're leaving the dog out in those conditions then animal control should write them a citation, and if it keeps up they will have the right to confiscate the dog.

If you want to try the neighborly approach, keep trying to call them. Bake some cookies and try to catch them at home. Be honest about your concerns and issues with the dog. If they are willing to work with you, great. If not, animal control needs to step in and get this dog a better home.

You can talk to your neighbors about having there dogs wear a shock collar at night. that may quiet them down. but also think of the possibilities of them barking for a good reason. something dangerous may be near. still consider both sides. also keep calling animal control. dogs are never supposed to be outside in that weather without protection. call the animal control again and the police if necessary.

Not much I'm afraid. Dogs aren't as intelligent as us & they see barking as the only resolution to a stranger whether human or animal that they can't get to. They think that their intimidating them. And that weather is outrages to leave a pampered animal out in, call animal control next time THAT happens because they will DEFINITELY take him then. A dog is different from a cow/bull, a ewe/ram, or a doe/buck (I'm talking about deer & goats), livestock & wild animals are tougher than pets because they aren't always as pampered. A dog isn't made now to withstand rain unless it's a Husky, a sheep guard dog, or just a property guard dog breed, like a Rottie. If it's a little dog like I think it is, most bad barkers are, then it is not made to withstand all that. It could get sick. animal control.

File a noise complaint with the police department. Tell them it is going on all day and your children can not nap and that you work nights. They may be able to help you or else take other legal steps that will cost you money like a noise restrain order against the owners of the dogs.

First try putting a polite note in their mailbox. If that doesn't help, call animal control and file a complaint. If you call animal control every time the dog is barking, they will finally do something just to shut you up.

Call animal control , call the police .. until they fix the problem .

There is animal cruelty going on and they are disturbing the peace ... If you get no help call a lawyer for advice . I think an attorney can actually help you .

Don't give up ... you have a right to get your rest day or night .

You can phone a noise complaint to the police on a daily basis, they come out twice, then start ticketing the owner. Neighbors should not have to deal with this kind of aggravation. If you have a homeowners society, report the dog to them as well.

definite...you are able to call the police and have them pass on your pals. it incredibly is a noise complaint, completely justifiable call to the police. they'll seek advice from them and advise them a neighbor is worried for the canine and should not think of the canine might desire to be left outdoors all night. additionally that the canine barks all night it is annoying and keeps you wakeful. in simple terms tell the dispatcher which you do not ought to work out the police at your place and you desire to be nameless. this way the neighbor would not even know who calls.
