Do you trust the police to investigate their own?

Should the police and prosecutor alone investigate allegations of corruption and abuse, or should these complaints be handled by a civilian board, grand jury, or something similar with the authority to bring charges independently of the prosecutors office? I will read all answers before awarding the points. Please check out my other questions.

I don't think police trust each other to investigate crime amongst themselves. Heck, the last thing a cop wants on his mind is investigating a guy, and then the same guy may be required to watch his back in a shoot out. Don't sound too promising, but it makes for a heck of a TV show.

No I wouldn't trust the police to do anything other than screw up. All cops should be voted on and like all candidates their records should be scrutinized and picked through with the finest comb and if they screw up a large democratically elected investigative body (cops should not be eligible for the position) should handle it and bring charges and that cop should be fired regardless of the offense (unless it is found that cop was truly innocent) Also every year a cop should have a review and see if they would still qualify for the position or if people still want them and if not they get canned.

It does seem maybe a bit tedious and complicated but it will end corruption and abuse because if people don't like them they don't get elected or they get fired if they screw up they are fired and charges are brought against them by a democratic council.

Hardy har har. Almost as much as I'd trust a priest to investigate child abuse charges

Hell no...they will protect each other, even if they are wrong. I do not trust anybody to investigate their own.

No, the police have shown time and time again that they protect their own, regardless of the evidence and accusations.
