Will the NFL change its playoff format?
The NFL playoff format should consist of 6 teams with the best record in their conference, the sixth-place tie-breaker on based on points scored.
2008 Playoffs would be like this:
1. Tennessee Titans
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
3. Indianapolis Colts
4. New England Patriots
5. Baltimore Ravens
6. Miami Dolphins
1. New York Giants
2. Carolina Panthers
3. Atlanta Falcons
4. Minnesota Vikings
5. Philadelphia Eagles
6. Arizona Cardinals

No the NFL will not change its format, and it shouldn't. Every major sport puts the division champions in the playoffs.
The reason divisions exist is to have some sort of common opponent. In the NFL with only 16 weeks, the opportunity to play everyone in the divsion would necessitate that there is no cross conference opponents.
Every year there is a team that gets snubbed by being in a tough division and someone like the Arizona Cardinals gets in with a weak division. But the strength shifts and the same divisions arent always weak. Only a handful of years ago the Seahawks were in the superbowl and now they are terrible. The Giants have gone from mediocre to the top of the pile.
Bottom line is win your games and you get in. Pittsburgh played an incredibly tough schedule and got in...

I used to love Boston (just not its sports fans), now I'm really, really starting to hate it. Can't you just be satisfied that you had a great finish to a horrible season? The playoff system is fine as it is...be glad that it isn't still a 6 division system, so that more teams per region gets a chance. Stop whining, you lost some games you shouldn't have, but you'll be back with that core and a still young Moss. Keep the format like it is, just get better players on your team if you have to.

I disagree with this statement all together. If they did, then what would be the point of divisions? If a team doesn't make it because they weren't the best in their conference, and they didn't make the two wild card spots, then why should they be playing for the position Champion Football Team. You also can't say that just because one team scored more points then the other, they don't deserve to make it in. What if they are a defensive team? What if they play against harder teams?

some conferences are stronger than others. a team which wins in a strong conference may have a poorer w-l record than some eliminated teams and deserves to participate in the playoffs. I understand your point but the present system is the best and should not be changed.

No. It is a cycle. Look at how long the NFC was the best league. They 12-13 super bowls in a row from. When the money is not there in the AFC the talent will go where it is in the NFC.

Under your idea what would be the point of divisions? Just have one huge, 16 team, AFC division and one huge, 16 team, NFC division. You'd lose divisional rivalries, divisional title races. In essense your idea stinks. I would hold my breath that the NFL will change their format in the least.

I like it like that, why do you have divisions if the playoffs teams will be the ones with the better record? The complain then would be that some teams had an easier schedule.

they totally should. how can New England be seated 4th in the AFC and miss the playoffs??? this doesn't work. in Basketball the top 8 go. Who is going to enjoy watching the 8-8 Chargers wasting everyone time. and worse yet - they have homefield advantage over the Colts!

Then you'd have to abolish the Divisional format and put everybody in the same pile. You would have to eliminate division races and rivalries.

why should they ????? to please the crybaby Boston fans ???? name ONE sport where a division champion doesnt make the playoffs and ill entertain the thought of the top 6 teams in each conference. division champions will ALWAYS make the playoffs in EVERY sport, regardless of their record .... deal with it.
