DiPietro Injured Again?

It's being reported that after 1 game back, Rick DiPietro is once again on the IR with another groin injury. Seriously? Is this guy ever going to be worth the $4.5 mil/per season, or are the Isles hust paying him to sit at home with an ice bag on his crotch? So the questions are:

1) Is it safe to say now that DiPietro is a bust because he is damn sure injury prown.

2) What do the Islanders do in this situation because they are now stuck in a position where DiPietro is becoming a bubble boy and they're banking their future on this guy?

3) Who's to blame? Milbury? Snow?

4)Finally and personally, I've seen him play and have never been blown away. So what's his appeal?

Update:

Bob: Isn't that the case with anyone? If you put a slumping Jose Theodore from 2 years ago in nets for Detroit then chances are he would have looked like a god.

1.) Injury PRONE it would seem but much too early to call him a bust, he's still only 26. The NYI have plenty of cap room but they won't be spending with the crowds (lack thereof) they are getting.

2.) Look forward to next year......concentrate on good drafting in the meantime.

3.) I really don't blame anyone. Bad luck. DiPietro was highly touted. I thought the contract was a good risk/reward......DiPietro took some of the risk signing that contract, he could have left alot of $ on the table if he became very successful.

4.) I think he has skills....put him on a good team and I think he would be OK (if healthy)......I wouldn't mind if the Flyers took a chance and traded for him in the off-season......Theodore got 4.5 M to put it in perspective, he should be close to hitting his prime years....can't believe I'm saying it but I'd like to see Holmgren grab him.

  • If you say you have seen him play, then you haven't watched the right games. He stood on his head against the Rags last season in a 36 save 2-1 victory. When he is healthy, he can keep a team in games and steal a few. If he played on a better team, who knows? Still too early to call him a bust. At this point in a lost season, just let him sit it out, get healthy, get in shape, draft Tavares, and start over next year. Until last season, he had increased his win total every year for 3 straight seasons, not an easy accomplishment playing on the Island. 11 of his losses last season came after he got injured in that stupid Skills Competition. The Islanders were at least smart enough to have an insurance policy on his contract, so if he retires due to injury, it won't cost them, except for the policy premiums.

P.S. Milbury gets the blame just because he is the biggest moron ever to be a GM..
