What’s your cure for cabin fever?

You know the time in winter for one reason or other such as caring for a sick loved one, bad weather, etc you are stuck indoors for weeks? Say its -25 below outside for a month straight when its warm outside, and the snow is too deep of the light powder for a snow machine to travel on. Though temperature is not always a factor, you can still go nuts with no snow. For you city folks this means no stores, its snow shoeing or hiking miles to a little store through adverse conditions. I knew a man who hiked 12 miles and almost froze to death to get a soda for his wife, no not a life saving medicine it was a soda pop, cabin fever will do that!

So what do you do to keep from burning the cabin down while you laugh hysterically dancing about the flames with a bottle of Jack?

If you have a good answer on how to prevent cabin fever and it can be funny, you not only get best answer but it just might become popular to backwoods folks.

I have a lot of things to pervent cabin fever here are some thing I do.

    1. I form a family slumber party night. Find a night where everybody can gather, such as a Friday or Saturday night. Rent a few of your favorite movies or select favorites from your own collection. Pop up some popcorn and fix some hot chocolate. Have all of the children bring their sleeping bags to the living room or family room, and the adults can cozy up with their favorite afghans and pillows on the furniture. Only the people in your house.

    2. Start a recipe box or book. Pick out favorite recipes from magazines, newspapers or books, Write down family favorites. Type them onto cards or cut them out and paste them into a scrapbook. Let other members of the households pick out some of their favorites and take a day to create the recipes. Create a warm and delicious smelling kitchen on a cold windy day.

3.Catch up on some books that you have been meaning to read. Take a few hours of the day to have some quiet reading time for everybody in the house. Turn off the televisions, phones and computers.

4.Try a new craft such as creating a family scrapbook. Get everybody involved by picking out favorite family pictures. Create a special category page for each one. Write your favorite stories or memories, and then add some colorful stamps or stickers.

    5. Watch T.V. or use your computer and talk on the phone cause trust me everyone is going to be bord.

6.Put on a family game night. Gather some of your favorite board games, play charades or even your own version of win, lose or draw. Plant candy or trinkets around the house as prizes. Create a few teams and play games. Serve everybody's favorite snack and beverage.

    7. Plan a cook - off. It would bring the fun out of your taste buds!!

    8. Prank call! Everyone is going to be home trust me. If someone doesn't answer they are freakin crazy dude! LoL,

    9. You can look through your old pictures. If you don't like the pictures then you could draw on them! You know do funny faces on them.!

    10. Treat yourself with a home spa. Hot water. Ahh.

    11. Host a make-up party with people in your house. Even the guys.

    12. Danceing skills.

    TIPS:

Here are is a website that will make you laugh!! It also has things to do to cure cabin fever!

Hard work does it for me. No matter how bad it is inside or out there is always a job to do. Hauling water, keeping a path clear, fixing the roof, building better furniture, cooking a really good meal, etc... after all of that's done you'll be pretty exhausted, from there you can eat, sleep, --- , or take up a time consuming hobby like wood carving. I like to keep a journal too. Nothing anyone would ever want to read, just day to day stuff: weather, events, accomplishments etc...

Order a playstation or xbox and a ton of games! Haha. but really, I would just try to find things to do that you normally wouldn't do. Draw, write a story, take pictures, make a little movie with a camcorder, clean rifles and stuff. I really don't know. When I get bored I just try to do something that I wouldn't normally do. Good luck.

There's a guy who was in my little brother's class in school. He has a cabin, or at least he used to, about thirty miles out of Fairbanks. He also has the good sense to move back to Mississippi in the winter and stay with friends until they can't stand him any more and kick him out. In the spring he gets to choose which state's mosquitoes to feed, unless he's worn out his welcome in the whole of MS, and in the summer he's back feeding the flies in AK.
