Rolling Stones fans: your thoughts on this Mick Jagger quote regarding Exile on Main St.?

i would definitely listen to a remix of exile, and maybe i can read mick's mind because very few stones fans, other than me, don't have exile high on their list of their greatest albums

and i definitely agree that exile is more of an experience...when you think about it, what major hits were spawned from that album? there are none really, not to say that there aren't any good songs, but none of the singles were major successes of their own right...also, i think the content and style of the songs contributes to this as well, a song like let it loose, which is imo the best song on the album, does not play too well as a radio hit

Exile is my favorite album ever, so the remixing would be quite a shock to me. I love the faded-out sound of Exile, but I do think the songs would hold up well on their own. If you hear "Shine A Light" or "Sweet Virginia" in concert, they aren't the same song. I have a feeling that would be closer to the remixed sound. Great question, btw.

I never quite got into "Exile on Main Street (1972)" for some reason.

I love individual songs off Exile, but the album as a whole seems too 'dense' to me; I don't know how else to describe it.

I've always prefered "Aftermath (1966)", "Their Satanic Majesties Request (1967)", "Beggers Banquet (1968)", and "Sticky Fingers (1971)".

I'll listen to Exile today and see if I still feel the same way about it. Sometimes my opinion on albums will shift unexpectedly. That happened to me with "Boy (1980)" by U2. My opinion on Exile is pretty stable though, since I've listened to it numerous times at different points in my life.

Yeah he's right. They were totally phuqued up during that time. There's a book about the recording of that album... I forget the name but research it and you'll find it, it was a great bgook. It's only a few years old. They went to the south of france and basically just drank and did heroine for three months while they recorded the album. Keith especially was a mess.

I'd buy the remix. Mostly because everyone talks about this album so much so I bought it a few years back and was like, "Really? I must be missing something." I guess sometimes the context of the times matters so perhaps that's what lacking for me. But perhaps this remix would do it for me.

I think Exile is a masterpiece, and even though He made it, I'd have to disagree with Mick. I mean it has a few throways, sure. But it is also chock full of some of the best material the band ever put out.

Out of the fog of drugs and alcohol comes some truth.

I think Mick may be on to something, so many bands have remixed with better results so why not? It may make something good into awesome....but then again today's technology may be too much for the lo-fi too.

I like it but it is not one of my favorites, but who am I to dislike Mick's thought's on his own work. I think it makes him a better artist, one who seems to care about the music he leaves behind to us.

Yes I would buy a remix, just because I have all their music on vinly and most of it o cd.
