Holidays to Iceland....?

I'm trying to find a decent site to price up a family holiday to Iceland on a budget. Also wondering when the best time to go is and what places are a must see. It's a surprise for my good lady as she's always wanted to go.

Thanks for your time.

I highly recommend Discover the World.

They are specialists in holidays to Iceland.

I've only been in March, when there was still lots of late winter snow around and it was beautiful, in a rugged sort of way. I am going again this coming June to see the contrast between winter and summer.

There are some very popular things to do and see, for good reason.

An almost standard tourist excursion is called the Golden Circle tour. This is a must, it takes you to some of the most interesting sites within easy travelling of Reykjavik. Thingvellir national park, Gullfoss waterfall, and the geysirs.

Another must is the Blue Lagoon thermal spa. Bathing out in the open in mineral rich milky blue hot water drawn up from deep under ground is fantastic, even more so if there is a bit of light snow falling too. It doesn't half stink of sulphur to begin with but you get used to it. Blue Lagoon is close to the international airport at Keflavik (which itself is 35 miles or so from Reykjavik) so many visitors work a visit in with their journey back to the airport on the way home. At least two excursion companies offer an airport transfer combined with a couple hours at the Blue Lagoon with your cases safely locked away in the coach while you have a soak.

When you visit Iceland you may want to consider taking some guided tours so that you see the most popular attractions and learn more about the country. Here are some of the most popular options at very affordable prices. http://search.gotobus.com/cgi-bin/tour.cgi?depart=... EU

Try Icelandair Holidays. Best time to go is July/August when there are long light nights and the weather is a bit warmer. You should go to the Blue Lagoon - the thermally heated pool which is great at any time. You can also take a trip that includes Gullfoss waterfall, the geysirs and Thingfellir - the site of the original Icelandic Parliament. They call that trip 'the golden triangle'. It's a great place to go. Good choice.

Organise it yourself as using Iceland express

Going for a package that includes Iceland air will cost a fortune as this plane company is hundreds of pounds more expensive

Get yourself the rough guide to Iceland and try to fit in Dettifoss europes most powerful waterfall

If you are going in winter there will only be 4 hours light and you will not be able to get to muck of the interior

Still Reykjavik in winter will be magic with the snow and the northern lights

The kids will love Iceland, wish I had gotten the chance to go as a kid

    Must see:

Hallgrímskirkja (Hallgrim's Church) in Reykjavik is the tallest and most striking church in Iceland. Named after 17th century Icelandic poet, hymn composer and clergyman, Hallrimur Petursson, the church's unusual design represents volcanic basalt columns flanking its towering steeple. At 74.5 metres (244 ft), Hallgrimskirkja is the tallest building in Iceland. It is situated in the city center and has become one of Reykjavik’s best known symbols. In front of the church stands a statue of Leif Eriksson, donated to Iceland by the United States.

Iceland's National Museum was established on 24 February 1863, it is the best place to become acquainted with the folklore, history and culture of this fascinating nation. The National Museum houses more than 2,000 national treasures and those have been combined with conceptual exhibits and artifacts. This museum gives the visitor a great view of Iceland’s extraordinary history and is dedicated to communicating knowledge of Iceland’s cultural heritage from the time of its pioneering settlement in 874 to the present day.

Reykjavik Botanical Gardens were opened on the 18th of August 1961 and they accommodates a good selection of colourful seasonal flowers, Icelandic and foreign plants, clearly marked with their Icelandic and Latin names. Besides walking trails and water features, the gardens have a greenhouse cafe open during the summer months, a children's park and a zoo.

Iceland would be a good choice for a holiday this years as they will need a tourist boost for their economy these next few years, I reckon prices ought to be quite a bit lower there this year... desperation drives empty pockets.
