What are the "special" rights for gays some religious people are worried about?

So, in a recent question, there was a complaint that stems from what we know about the religious-based battle against gay marriage and civil rights for gays.

So, a few posters in recent questions have cited gays seeking "special rights", but failed to tell us just what constitutes "special rights"

I'd sure love to know what they are. So. . . what are they?

Update:

The remark made by "No discord" is the 3rd time in 2 days I have seen someone complain about "special rights"

Update 2:

Whodat - The question is what constitutes "special rights"???

I have a hard time believing that people actually look at marrying someone of their own gender as a "special right". That's just flat absurd. They forget that the right to marry is conferred on citizens by the state - not the church. If you don't have that license from your local county government, your "marriage" doesn't mean anything from a legal standpoint. And since it involves government, it is illegal for them to deny the same privileges and rights to one class of citizens that they allow to another.

And as a more practical point, so what? So some dudes are marrying each other. My wife and I will go to the wedding and reception if invited - I'm sure it'll be one hell of a party.

EDIT: Whodat - "sacred institution" of marriage? The divorce rate in the U.S. is what again? And any idiot who can fill out the paperwork and pay the fee can get the license unless they're gay. How is that "sacred"?

They are scared sh*tless that gays might get treated like humans.

If they don't repent of their evil vice, they're going to need all the help they can get!

I'm a Christian, and support equality for all people, including the gay community. I don't see the rights gays are asking for as "special". The state permits heterosexuals to marry, so the same right should be extended to gay couples. Heterosexual individuals and couples have certain rights; gays should have those same rights. There's nothing "special" about it. All people deserve basic rights. If rights are granted to one group, then they ought to be granted to them all.

Gays want the special right to "marry" someone of their own gender. They also want the special right of calling everyone who disagrees they the perpetrator of a hate crime. They want the special right of redefining marriage. They want the special right of overthrowing the will of the voters.

Gays already have equal rights. There is no battle for civil rights for gays.

Gays are actually not interested in eaual rights. What they want is for everyone to say what they do is morally equivalent to what heterosexual people do.

Marriage is between a man and a woman.

Civil unions give gays the same rights that normal people have without defiling the sacred institution of marriage.
