you are the creator of this universe, it exists only in your mind. should the sleeper awaken the dream will disperse; and the universe with it.hence your right to claim ownership of the universe, but your dream is not the only reality. there are countless others. creations of the other dreamers.
however for the universe to expand and evolve, you must leave behind the familiar and seek after that which is unknown and hitherto unobtainable. all reality is within your being. even that which you have not as yet come to comprehend.

The Universe as we know it when consious is a solid thing, ie you cannot pass through walls or suddenly sprout wings and fly. It is real to our physicality which we share with similar beings. Like a modality of an age.
In the dream world it is similar to our waking one and we can describe the things we experience there. It is real and solid while experienced, we accept it mind body and soul. which is why some dreams scare the life out of us. lol
But, there are other levels in the dream world, the astral plane, the lower and higher realms, the realm of ghosts etc. And all of them overlap with our consious one to some degree. And then there are realms so far from our own that no language could possible describe them.
So if you cling to only known things, you will be unable to experience these other realms because you deny them. Do not acknowlege their existence other than a fleeting moment of wierdness. You say something like, 'it was only a dream' or 'someone walked over my grave'. for example. and deny the reality of it.
This is the hardest thing to describe because our language has no words for it and the only thing that works as a medium for messeges is symbology. Animinism. But the ancients called it the nagual.

How very thought provoking. As a Christian I will probably interpret this completely different than most.
"Though this Universe I own ... When I was saved, God made me joint heirs with His Son.
I possess not a thing .... Yet all that I have is given to me by God.
for I cannot know the unknown ... God has given us revelation through His word concerning heaven but we have not yet experienced it.
if to the known I cling ... As long as we are in the body, we cannot be with Him in heaven.
May we all place ourselves under God's wonderful umbrella of protection so He can bless us throughout this new year.

In all love,
Cool saying, what is the source?
We are one with God thus the universe we own yet we are not the fullness of God and in this life all is transient. All things must pass (G. Harrison) thus we possess not a thing.
"I am but a drop in the infinite ocean of the light and love of God."
"I am in the father and the father is in me." This is universally true, for in order for anything to be, it must be in God for nothing exist outside of him.
God cannot be known absolutely. This is a teaching common to most all Holy text. Yet all that you do know is God. The fullness of your experience is God revealing himself to you.
Gods nature is infinite thus it is ever unfolding, ever changing, ever revealing and in this he remains the same. For any to claim that they know absolutely is to deny the infinite nature of God.
Thus when we hold that we know perfectly or absolutely we paint a prison around ourselves and are not open to what we do not know, because in our ego we claim to have it or know it. To the extent we think there is no knowledge beyond what we possess this is the limit of what we can know or understand.
Thus, "I cannot know the unknown if to the known I cling."
"Those who say they know, do not know. Those who say the do not know, know."
Blessings and peace to all,
All in all,
Nony

I am one with the Universe, therefore I own none of it - it just "is".
I can only know the unknown if that is where my focus lies. If I cling to the known, that takes my focus away from the unkown.
I am that I am

When I read things like "release myself from the bondage of self," the first thing that comes to mind is that I'm not sure it is possible to do that. I do think it is very possible to love ourselves and others just the way we presently exist, and if we do that, we are not in bondage. If you believe we have free will...I do...then we are free to make whatever decisions we do about how we intend to live our lives. However, being free, by definition, means that we are not bound. Maybe what you're really looking to do is to love yourself, love others and love God more than you already do. There does not have to be any inherent conflict between unconditionally loving all these things. Best wishes to you for a wonderful, happy and joyful New Year!

this is really beautiful. it is source speaking to source, expressing the inexpressible. that what we are is even more than the universe, for we are aware of the universe.
that what we are is even subtler than space and limitless, for we are aware of space and of limitations.
that what we are owns nothing and yet everything happens in it.
that what we are cannot be known through an intellectual process, for the intellect is something put on through conditioning and borrowed knowledge.
the intellect and what it knows is limited to heard and read knowledge and that what we are is prior to any intellectual knowledge.
happy new year!

that first answer wasnt very nice =(
it tells me that the person who wrote this, is a deep person, the "Though this Universe I own" it means that the person is a human, owning materials and possessions, which the universe is made up of, material... but the person possesses not a thing, for i cannot know the unknown, so she doesnt posess any unknown knowledge if she/he only clings to what he/she already knows, so the person is saying that you should let go of what you already know, and release all of your posessions, and exlpore the universe for unknown things and new knowledge....but thats how i percieve it, its very nice! its my interpretation of a poem, theres no right or wrong answer right? lol and have if ur christian i hope you had a merry christmas, if ur jewish i hope you had a happy hanukkah, if ur athiest then i hope you had an enjoyable winter solstice!!

I have to keep reading it to make sure its sinking in...
It says to me that I am a part of ALL THAT IS.
The only reality is that Things do not exist. Our bodies are not any more 'real' than our couch and the Truth of each of us exists only in the invisible.
And...if we exclude any way of thinking or understanding or experiencing then we miss the point. To honor only one way of consciousness eliminates another and in that, we loose touch with the Universe as it encompasses EVERYTHING - a mind blowing fact to our small minds and hearts.

to me it means if you desire the things of this earth more then the things of God you can never truly know him
