    There is a lot of confusion surrounding this because there are two ways of defining them:

    In Decimal:

    1000KB = 1MB

    1000MB = 1GB

    In Binary:

    1024KB = 1MB

    1024MB = 1GB

    Hard drive & optical disc manufacturers display their specs in Decimal which is why a hard disk never shows up as large as it is claimed to be by Windows (which displays storage capacity in Binary).

    Blank DVDs are listed as 4.7GB (decimal) but Windows sees them as 4.37GB (binary).

    Hope this helped.

    There are 1024 kilobytes (KB) in 1 Megabyte (MB)

    There are 1024 Megabytes (MB) in 1 Gigabyte (GB)

    There are 1024 Gigabytes (GB) in one Terabyte (TB)

    Also... There are 1,024,000 Kilobytes in 1 Gigabyte

    There are 1,024,000,000 Kilobytes in 1 Terabyte

    There are 1,024,000 Megabytes in 1 terabyte

    There are 8 'Bits' In one byte.

    There are 1024 bytes in 1 KiloByte

    There are also the rare 'Petabytes' but there are no hard drive for 1PetaByte unless you connect together 1000 of the stable 1TB hard drives or 100 of the not very stable 10TB massive hard drives.

    Usually, you may think that 1MB is 1000kb, but that is not correct. 1MB is 1024kb, 1GB is 1024MB, 1TB is 1024GB, 1PetaByte is 1024TB, etc.

    one kilo = 1000

    one mega = 1000000

    one giga = 1000000000

    1000 kilo = 1 mega

    1000 mega = 1 giga
