A stock Ruger 10/22 is capable of 1/2" - 3/4" groups at 50 yards once you find the ammo that your particular rifle likes best. A aftermarket heavy barrel that has tighter tolerances can shrink those groups to under 1/2" for 10 shots.

I have a heavily customized 10/22 that will put 10 rounds into a 3/8" circle all day long at 50 yards when I feed it Remington Cyclone hollowpoints. Those are what my rifle shoots most accurately after MUCH testing with many different brands.

    Good luck -

I had my first 10/22 for over 25 years before it was stolen. I promptly replaced it with another. As my father keeps it at his farm, I have been contemplating getting another 10/22. I have looked at other .22s, both less and more expensive, but I always come back to the Ruger. You can get the basic model at Walmart for under $200 or you can get one of the fancier models (walnut stocks, stainless steel, etc.). If you aren't happy with the Ruger, I doubt you would be happier with any of the others. Plus, there are about 1000 different aftermarket products out there for the 10/22. You can trick it out to your hearts content.

I have a stock 10/22, I haven't really shot at targets for accuracy with it yet just cans. I have a big box of Remington golden bullet hollow points, I have tried to shoot these and get a lot of jams, they jam even worse in my Ruger Mark 2, 22 pistol. I only use them in my revolvers and bolt action gun now because of all the jams. Round nose bullets work best for me. You need to find what works best in your gun,

well bone stock a standard 10/22 carbine with a cheap Bushnell on it I could go 6 for 10 on empty 12ga hulls at a measured 98meters. My dad could hit at least 8 for 10. since then it has a better scope and a trigger job I can go about 8-9 for 10 now and my dad can hardly miss em.

and btw not everyone hates the golden bullets I know several people that like em cause they shoot well in their gun and rarely get duds.

That said ALL of mine (2 10/22, Win 67, Ruger .22 Auto and a Mark II bull bbl target) shoot CCI Mini Mag(hp or solid) and Win. Power Points better

Before I get accused of bashing Ruger's 10/22, let me say I like the gun and actually just picked up the third one I've owned, also a stock gun (but with some plans for upgrades, on a budget).

The first one I had long ago was stolen with my car, left it in the trunk. The next one about 8 years back I spent maybe $400 on upgrades, mostly Volquartsen barrel and other parts. It was a fine shooter, but I traded it for a National Match Garand some kid inherited from his grandfather. I got the better end of that deal.

So, I'm on 10/22 Number 3, bought in November with about 750 rounds through it.

How does it shoot? Not bad, but not great. I can get most of the shots on a 5 inch sticky target at 50 yards from the bench. I own 9 other .22 rifles, all stock and not exactly target rifles. 4 Marlin 60s, 1 Marlin 70, 1 Winchester 190, 1 Romanian M1969, 1 Henry H001 lever, and 1 Heym German K98 training rifle, pre-war.

The Ruger falls into the low end of the accuracy range when compared as a group to this motley collection. Again, not bad but no tack driver.

So, does this tell you anything about your rifle? No, not at all. But if super accuracy is really your objective, a stock 10/22 may or may not deliver.

OK, what kind of scope did you get?

Also, I hope you have good luck with the Remington Goldens. If you get jams or duds, blame the ammo and not your rifle. Those have proven very unreliable to many, including myself. I would say they are the only ammo I intentionally avoid.

That ammo sucks. I figured this out after buying 7000 rnds. Then shooting the bolt action.

a very good shot should be able to shoot minute of rabbit at 40 or 50 yards with a 10/22

Been through several .22 autos over the years... the Ruger wont do any thing a Remington, Browning or a Winchester or Marlin wont do.

You seem pretty invested in a brand of ammo.... a good shot should know that indivual .22 rifles will show a better results with a particular bullet weight or brand of ammo... lots of game kills cleaner with solids too.

Well, accuracy on a gun depends on the shooter. The 10/22 is an awesome gun (even stock) You will do fine...

You would be better off using regular lead tips (Fedreral) Hollow Points tend to drop faster...

    Good gun.

high velocity is not always more accurate, buy several boxes of different brands and shoot them,,,,go figure which is the best and buy as many as you can of that lot number on the box.
