Christians and Global Warming controversy?

This was inspired by a recent question.

Why is there so much controversy and debate over global warming?

Can't we all agree that, regardless of whether global warming is happening or not, the pollution we generate is having extreme negative effects on our planet and our health?

I am simply confused as to why people are arguing over the details instead of looking at the bigger picture here.

Update:

Man, some of you guys are way off topic.

I'm simply trying to find some common ground. Since pollution is a fact - just ask someone in L.A. how the smog looks on a hot day - I figured I'd get some more agreeable answers...

Update 2:

Furthermore, I never even mentioned my personal opinion about global warming...

Global warming is a theory that seems to be right, for now. Several years ago we had the scare of global cooling that seemed right, for then. Later we will have a new theory to worry about.

But the point is that we do need to take better care of the environment for the health of the people. Look at that slurry spill that happened last week, it is going to poison a lot of land and water. It won't 'ruin' the earth, but it will make that part of it difficult to live on for awhile.

God put us in charge of the earth, we should treat it with respect. I personally feel that climates change drastically in cycles. The earth is a wonderful thing. At one time the north pole was where the Sahara Desert is now, and there are very rich coal beds under the Antarctic.

Things change. One volcano puts out more carbon than millions of cars and etc. BUT we don't need to add to the 'carbon footprint' (one of the newly 'banned' words) if we can help it.

Voila! an excellent topic in which common ground between two very different things must be found. Whether you believe in Global Warming or not the fact still remains temperatures are rising and the polar ice caps are melting. You'd have to blind or live under a rock to not notice this stuff.

The main reason I think that many people put this off as fiction is because if they agree and follow science this time it makes them look bad for putting other things off that science has also proven fact (evolution, big bang theory, etc.). They don't wanna side with it now to avoid looking bad in the long run which is plain BS. It's winter here in Florida and we're facing 80 degree weather! I mean it's always hot, no lie, but winter is usually the time where it drops to at least 60. Why people can't put their beliefs aside to realize our planet is in serious trouble is beyond me. Either way Christianity has always done the opposite of what it's supposedly meant to do....

By the way, since most of the folks who are on the "global warming" bandwagon have since discovered the error of their ways, they use the new buzz term "climate change".

Seriously I think God in His infinite wisdom created a planet that could handle what His creation would dish out, within reason of course. We are as Christians supposed to be good stewards and in the USA we have been abundantly blessed with resources. God created everything, including coal and the other so called fossil fuels. I find it strange that no dinosaur bones have ever been discovered in oil patches. Probably just a coincidence. I agree, why don't we focus on issues that have negative effects on our health, let's say for example, genetic modification of many of our foods, or the poisoning of our produce by irradiation. Hey what about all the people who are brain washed into thinking there's a pill to cure every ill and a Big Pharma company that is happy enough to make sure there's plenty to go around. Global Warming, er I mean Climate Change is not the result of pollution. If indeed it does exist I submit there is a higher power responsible.

Global warming is real. The Earth IS getting warmer and the ice caps ARE melting. The only real controversy is whether or not it is being cause by human CO2 emissions or if it is a natural heating process that coincidentally coincides with the massive quantities fossil fuels mankind is burning.

I have noticed many Christians don't like the idea of mankind having such a profound effect on the world and are thus drawn to believe it is merely a natural warming. I find this to be a very dangerous assumption since even if it is a natural occurrence it wouldn't hurt to slow down our pollution, and if they are wrong and the warming is indeed caused by mankind than we would have just wasted our only chance to save the planet as we know it.

We don't "teach the controversy" with astrology and astronomy, or alchemy and chemistry. Some ideas have no supporting data, and some ideas have overwhelming supporting data. Global warming has overwhelming supporting data. Opposing ideas are largely the products of money from companies vested in selling more coal and oil. Evolution has overwhelming supporting data. Creationism and "Intelligent" Design have none. The ozone hole was a real problem, and cutting production of CFCs helped cure it. God and Jesus are just characters in old stories, with no reliable evidence for their existence. The Apocalypse is just a story, based on the fact that people are often fascinated with the idea of end times. We all like myths and other stories. We don't have to believe them.

there may be global warming. about 10,000 years ago was the end of the last ice age & the beginning of the current warm spell. The ice age lasted for many thousands of years, there was no carbon dioxide from industry but the ice melted.

If we have global warming or cooling it will happen if man does anything or not. we might just speed it up a bit.

At the moment im really doubting global warming. Currently in the middle of summer here in australia and we are all walking around in jackets. If anything its just being getting colder from 08 onwards.

My religious beliefs have never had anything to do with my view on global warming. We arnt all one big stereo type you know.

To be sure, it would be nice if we were better stewards. However, the 'global warming' thing was a political ploy to get power over the people. It also was a lie. For the last two years, there has been global cooling. I don't want Al Gore and his gang telling me how to live.

The Al Gore Global Warming leaders are giving false information to the people to gain power and control over them, This is a big money scam, and UN power struggle over us and others at our coast. We are all for good and fair environment needs, but not to be taking in by these lying and greedy nuts.
