Do you believe that Jesus went to hell after he died on the cross?

Some people believe this. I don't. I believe when he said "It is finished", he meant it.

What do you think?

    I know the catholics do. Part of their Apostles Creed said, Jesus died and descended into hell although today it has been changed to read "he descended to the dead".

    I don't believe he did.

    Peter says:

    1Pe 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

    1Pe 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

    1Pe 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

    That doesn't say they were in hell but I don't know for sure. No one does. He is Lord of all.

    No, but he didn't die. I'll prove it. John 12:24 (New International Version) 24I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. That was said meaning that the resurrection would be in the same manner. Jesus would die as much as a seed does to grow into a plant. Actually, the seed doesn't die at all, but is a living embryo that transforms into a plant. In Jesus' own example, He was wrong that an embryo must be dead in order to grow. Since that makes no sense, he must've meant that he will be like that embryo, not dead before and not dead after, but instead, transformed. So Jesus was transformed on the cross. Whoever thinks that God would kill His own son just might be blaspheming. God might have crushed His son on the cross, but He didn't kill him. That's the miracle of being Christian. When we expire from this plamet, we won't die, but we'll be transformed with Jesus.

    You have to understand that the NT was written in Greek. So the word they would use for the place of the dead would be Hades. Translated into English would mean Hell. The definition of Hades and the definition of Hell (our version of hell anyway) are two completely different things. I do believe He went to paradise, one half of Hades, where the Saints were. That doesn't mean He suffered at all. He suffered all He had to on the cross. He became Sin.

    Why do people believe these One Text, Vague References?

    Surely they know these are translations and One Text alone should do nothing but evoke more research instead of jumping to a conclusion.

    No, Jesus did not go to "a hell place", He kept the Sabbath and rose on Sunday.

    Jesus was hung on a tree. Acts 5:30;10:39 Gal. 3:13

    Jesus was in hell or hades Acts 2:31 ;Acts 2:25-27

    Rev. 20:13, 14, KJ: “ The sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell* delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.” (So the dead will be delivered from hell. Notice also that hell is not the same as the lake of fire but will be cast into the lake of fire.)

    Hell is the common grave not a fiery torment.

    I believe he has visited there for a very short time. Read the book called The Devine Revelation of Hell by Mary Kay Baxter.

    Yes I do, Jesus was in Hell for 3 days, but not the "Hell" you think.

    ACTS 2:31 (KJV)--31He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

    Hell is a word translated from Greek and Hebrew ( sheol, hades) to mean "common grave of mankind".

    It is obvious that "Hell" doesn't mean a fiery place of torment if Jesus went there, that would be rediculous. This is one of many examples of how words can become misconstrued if not rendered correctly. You can see the logic in the fact that Jesus simply went to the grave for 3 days, that make sense.

    Most Christians state they do. The Apostles Creed:

    I believe in God the Father, almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. HE DESCENDED INTO HELL. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father, almighty. From thence, He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic/Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.

    He didn't go to hell to suffer. He went to hell to complete His task, to defeat death's hold on us.

    I believe He did for us in order to break the power of Satan and took away the keys of death, hell and the grave

    Acts 2: 22Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

    23Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

    24Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

    25For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

    26Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:

    27Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

    28Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

    18For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

    19By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

    20Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
