It's a landmark moment in your life-- from childhood to adulthood, so it has become tradition to memorialize that moment in a photographic portrait. Your parents will hang this one on the wall in the livingroom. Later your wedding picture will hang beside it.

Each year schools hook up with a studio so they get free pics of thier students for thier records. The senior picture is the last recorded picture for your family while your in school. Im appalled at how expensive they are, for what your really getting. You go onto adulthood after this, and it brings back memories to mom and dad about your school years and provides your picture for the yearbook, which you may or may not order, and you may or may not cherish the rest of your life. Someone stole all my yearbooks, so I do not know how much I would cherish mine, I wasnt given a chance to find out.
Breaking the bank to order huge orders, when you can scan and copy your own, Id say order the least amout. Be warned though, if you use a public picture maker and they see you copy it, you will be asked to stop, happend to me last year PS I felt your spot on for asking this question to a supposide group of older persons who can share real first hand experience on this, sorry you got rude comments, not every old person is an a h

Senior pictures are important because they create and capture the memories of a child's life all the way up until their senior year of high school (probably one of the greatest moments and most cherished memories in a person's life). Senior pictures are just something nice to have that capture and hold the memories of this point in a person's life and show how much they've grown.

Since I am in the Senior Citizen group, I assume you are talking about old people like myself. I´m not Senior to anyone.
People like myself are photographed by our families so they can remember who we were after we die. Notice, I did not say passed away.
Anyway, these pictures can be used as a memorial, a Thank God the Miserable Idiot died. A full sized photo with me standing on a dance floor,
while my family and their friends celebrate my demise.

because some day your children will look at them and say "mom you were such a geek" or laugh hysterically at dad's "fashion sense".
As you grow older memories sustain you and you will want to look back and see what you looked like then, and remember your friends.
The memories will come flooding back and you will be surprised at how darn good looking you were as a young whipper snapper.
Mom and dad want them because the day you were born they got the bragging rights - and so did your Grandparents !
Graduation IS a big deal to your family, so grin and bear it and remember its for the future, then the photos will mean something to you, just like they will now to your parents and family members.
When you graduate from college you will already see a different person in those photos from the one you are today.

another reason for senior pictures is when you go to your 50th class reunion, which I did 3 years ago, and they put your senior picture on your name badge every one can tell you "you haven't changed a bit". Sure..also before your class reunions you can have a refresher course on names and faces by going through the year book..Congrats on graduating this year..

They're you're last school photo ever. And you send them out in graduation annoucements to family members so you wanna look good. Some schools even require a professional picture to be in the school book or they put in a cruddy one.

Ooh Baby! ... was I ever looking good in my senior picture!
I wish that was my photo on my current driver's license! (at age 56 ... lol)
Look your best, it is a memory that will be w/ you for life and one that referencing becomes an issue.

Ok the category you have this in is senior citizens?
Anyway they're important because they're your last year of high school. Plus sometimes they're used for your graduation announcment thingies.

In years to come, when you are old and grey, it's nice to have something to look back on and say, "This is what I looked like when ..." then relish those memories that you don't think are so hot now.
