Ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who focuses on the eye. He went to medical school

Optometrist is not a medical doctor. But optometrist went to school for optometry. Optometrist basically can do the simple things that an opthalmologist can do, such as eye exams and looking in your eye. But they cannot treat eye problems with medications or surgery. Only an opthalmologist can.
