will PS3 update 2.53 make my PS3 system no longer backwards compatible?
I have an 80G system which is currently backwards compatible (ie: I can play Playstation and PS2 games on it).
I am afraid to update it to Version 2.53 as I don't want to lose this capability.
I have heard that the new cheaper systems out there are NOT backwards compatible at all, but I don't know if this is because of the update/firmware or if it is related to hardware...
did anyone update their PS3 to find it changed that feature?

The new cheaper versions dont have backwards compatible because they are missing the hardware and a certain engine that is present in the previous models. AN update doesnt render backwards compatibility useless. Several updates have extended BC to cover more games and fix more issues with them.
To answer the question, no 2.53 will not make you lose Backwards Compatibility.

The backwards compatibility of your PS3 isn't affected by any software updates, the backwards compatibility is all in the hardware.
So basically, you'll still be able to play PS2 games

No. As long as your PS3 has backward compatibility, it will always have backward compatibility. The old 80 gb still has the PS2's GPU, so it will be able to play PS2 games.

No, the update will not change anything.
